The Portland Trail Blazers continue their road trip by making a stop in New Orleans. The Pelicans have been one of the most exciting teams in the NBA this season while the Trail Blazers have continued to exceed expectations so far in this short season.
Let’s take a look at how these two teams matchup to make some winning NBA picks.
Portland Trail Blazers vs. New Orleans Pelicans
Thursday, November 10, 2022 – 08:00 PM EST at Smoothie King Center
Portland Trail Blazers
The Portland Trail Blazers continue their hot start to the season by getting a 105-95 win over the Charlotte Hornets in Charlotte on Wednesday night. The Trail Blazers were led by the combination of Damian Lillard and Anfernee Simons. Lillard scored 26 points with six rebounds and seven assists in the win. Simons added 19 points.
Another fantastic addition for the Trail Blazers this season has been the number 7 overall draft pick, Shaedon Sharpe. Sharpe has been a fantastic player and had 17 points in the win. He has the athleticism and tools to be a star in the NBA. Sharpe has a smooth playing style that is effective and aesthetically pleasing.
Trail Blazers Have Been Overachieving
There were lots of concerns about the Trail Blazers coming into this season. Many thought that this team did not have a chance to compete in the loaded Western conference. So far Portland is proving naysayers wrong and is off to a great start. The Trail Blazers and their fans have to be happy with the way that this team is coming together.
The additions of Josh Hart and Jerami Grant have made the Portland Trail Blazers a stronger team on the defensive end. Combine that with the offensive firepower of Lillard, Simons, and Sharpe, and this team is ready to compete and make a run in the West.
New Orleans Pelicans
The New Orleans Pelicans are coming off of 115-111 win over the Chicago Bulls. The win was a true team effort. Zion Williamson had 19, Brandon Ingram had 22, Jonas Valanciunas had 21 and Herb Jones had 17 points as the scoring was evenly distributed amongst the Pelican starters.
The Pelicans have everything it takes to be a true contender in the West this season. They are explosive on offense and can lock you down on defense. They are versatile and they're not reliant on one player for scoring.
Zion Williamson's return to being the explosive, athletic player that he was when he was drafted has been one of the most exciting things for NBA fans this season. Behind the strengths of Zion's ability to get easy points in the paint, the Pelicans are an offensive force to be reckoned with.
- Damian Lillard vs. CJ McCollum
Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum were backcourt mates for years in Portland. Last season, the Trail Blazers traded McCollum to the Pelicans. Still, these two high scorers know each other well.
Both players know each other well from their time together. Both will be eager to prove their worth and this could turn into a shootout between these two sharpshooting guards.
If Damian Lillard is able to have a big night, and McCollum can't keep up, the Trail Blazers have a chance to get another road win. If CJ McCollum is able to outscore his old running mate, the strength of the rest of the Pelicans team should put New Orleans in a great position to win
With the way the Trail Blazers are playing right now, this is too many points for the New Orleans Pelicans to cover. Yes, the Pelicans are a great team but I have this game much closer than the NBA odds suggest.
With Portland's ability to score, there's no reason they shouldn't be able to keep this game close. Both teams are coming off a back-to-back so fatigue will be an issue for both teams and that's a wash. Portland is also underrated defensively because of their years of being bad on that end.
I project the final score to be 117-113. This gives us an edge on taking the Blazers and also taking the over. There are arguments on whether or not fatigue contributes to an over or an under. I'm more of the mind that fatigue makes games more likely to go over because the intensity on the defensive end can be lackluster.
On a shorter slate tonight we still have a great opportunity to cash in multiple times just on this one game. Our best bets for tonight's game between the Portland Trail Blazers and the New Orleans are the Portland Trail Blazers +6.5 and the over 226.
Score Prediction: Pelicans 117 - Trail Blazers 113
NBA Pick: Over 226 (-110) at Bookmaker
