After Tuesday night, forget about the Golden State Warriors, Memphis took care of them and they are the hottest team in the NBA! Can the Grizzlies make it 11 in a row in the win column?
With Tuesday’s minor upset of Steph Curry and Golden State, Memphis is becoming a force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference. The Grizzlies have won 10 in a row, beat the NBA odds in nine of those skirmishes, and are 4th overall in the conference and in first place in the Southwest Division.
This matchup with Memphis will wrap up a four-game road trip for Minnesota and their seventh away outing in eight tries. This is going to be a challenging contest for the Timberwolves before heading home to face another pretty good club in Golden State.
Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Memphis Grizzlies
Thursday, January 13, 2022 – 08:00 PM EST at FedExForum
The betting odds at GT Bets have Memphis at a surprisingly low -4.5 over Minnesota. Our best guess is that it has something to do with center Steven Adams out with you know what, though he missed the Warriors battle also. Let’s talk about both clubs and when thinking about the odds from the top-rated sportsbooks.
Minnesota Needs Improved Accuracy From Deep to Move Up
At present, Minnesota is 9th in the Western Conference standings with their 20-21 record (22-19 ATS). The T-Wolves have won four of their last five games to move up, and are just four games from moving all the way to 5th in the West.
Two elements would help Minnesota head north in the standings. First, the Timberwolves are tied with four other teams who average 14 made three’s a game, which is second in the league. That’s a good number for how the NBA is played these days. What isn’t good is they have the most attempts to accomplish this at over 41 a contest, for 34.1 percentage, which is 21st in the NBA, well below anyone that is making similar made buckets from behind the arc.
It would help the effectiveness of the offense by subtracting some long-distance attempts for shots in or around the paint.
Though the T-Wolves are 13-7 ATS in away games, they allow opponents to connect on 47.2% from the field, which is 24th in this category, and if you want to win tonight and move forward in the standings, an increased effort would go a long way to achieving goals.
Memphis Quite Defensive During Their Winning Streak
On all the highlight shows and clips on Twitter and YouTube, we see Ja Morant doing something spectacular almost every night Memphis is playing. For those in the Twitter universe who wondered when Morant was out and the Grizzlies (29-14, 28-15 ATS) started winning and thought possibly he should be traded, that case was closed quicker than actors not in support of the Golden Globes.
Though Morant is a fantastic talent and his teammates are underrated as a group, something else is as tasty as the local barbeque sauce in Memphis.
During this extended winning streak, the Grizzlies have held opposing teams to an average under 43%, which is dramatically less than the 45.8% they were giving up before the W’s started to pile up.
Head coach Taylor Jenkins completely understands the importance of defending the basket and loves the buy-in he has gotten from his club and he hopes they have learned something.
Timberwolves vs. Grizzlies Free Pick Prediction
For NBA picks, we are not putting our hands out to stop this runaway locomotive. Memphis might lose or fail to beat the spread after such a hot stretch, but it makes no sense to try and make a “hero” pick without good reason.
Memphis is 7-1 SU and ATS in the past eight meetings. The T-Wolves' lone triumph was approximately seven weeks ago, mauling the Grizzlies 138-95 at home as 2.5-point home favorites. Though it was a while back, hard to imagine the Memphis players will have forgotten.
