Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets have overcome injuries to continue to be one of the better teams in the Western Conference. The Nuggets have seen multiple players go down this season but they keep plugging away. The Nuggets have won their last three road games, including a win over the Golden State Warriors. Denver hopes to continue the successful trip against their cross-state rivals in the Mavericks.

Of course, the play of Nikola Jokić is key to the Nuggets’ success, but other players have been crucial as well. Will Barton is averaging 15 points with five rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Aaron Gordon has done his job, averaging 14 points a game while being a versatile wing defender. Monté Morris has chipped in as well, but unfortunately, Morris has joined the cavalcade of injured players on the bench.

Austin Rivers has also been a nice versatile two-way player for the Nuggets. Rivers has been in and out of the lineup but always seems to be effective when called upon. Veteran play from Rivers, JaMychal Green, and Facundo Campazzo has kept the Nuggets afloat, while they have been dealing with their myriad of injuries.

Everything on the Nuggets runs through Jokic. So far this season, he rarely disappoints. Regardless of his teammates, opponents, or location, Jokic has put up big numbers night after night. Statistically, this season for Jokic has been better than last year, and last year he was the league MVP!

Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks were recently hit by covid protocols, but look to be at the end of the extended absences. Most notably, Luka Doncic returns to the lineup this evening. Luka will be joined by Tim Hardaway Jr, Maxi Kleber, Dwight Powell, and Reggie Bullock all making their return. Boban Marjanović, Jordan McLaughlin, and Isaiah Thomas are all still out. Trey Burke will be a game-time decision, needing one more negative covid test to play.

The Mavericks have struggled without Luka Doncic in their lineup, going 5-9. Luka already displayed issues with conditioning this season, so it'll be interesting to see how he returns from his bout with covid. The Mavericks will want Luka to be at full strength to keep pace with the reigning MVP.

Kristaps Porziņģis is scheduled to miss this game with rest. I find it interesting that they're starting to get back to full health, yet they would choose to rest Porzingis in this match-up; rather than field a full lineup against a potent Nuggets team. Yes, the Mavericks are trying to look at the long-term, but I wonder if they are taking the regular season too lightly.

The return of Tim Hardaway and Reggie Bullock is helpful for the Mavericks for completely opposite reasons. Hardaway adds more scoring punch, while Bullock is known for his defense. As the Mavericks return to full strength, these players will have an important role in their success. Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd will probably try and make an attempt to integrate each player back into the game flow as quickly as possible.

The Mavericks have had a disappointing start to the season, but with a new coach and a multitude of injuries, there is still plenty of hope they can turn it around. After the recent brutal stretch missing multiple key players, the Mavericks have a chance to make a run. By next week when they are healthy, the excuses will be gone and results will be expected by the fanbase.

Key Matchup

Will Barton vs. Luka Doncic

The return of Doncic will be a great help to Dallas, and the Nuggets will key their defensive attention on him. Barton could draw a majority of the assignments against Luka. Barton is important to the Nuggets on offense, so it will be interesting to see if fatigue from the important defensive assignment affects his offense. If Barton is able to play good defense on Luka and still be an important part of the Nuggets offense, they have a great chance to win. If Doncic is able to have a dominating performance on offense, the Mavericks will be in a great position to win.

Best Bet

The unknown about Luka’s conditioning leaves me to take the Nuggets and Jokic, who we know is playing great. Jokic has been carrying this team and these Euro superstars get up to play each other. There is an unspoken rivalry here and we should see a fun shootout. At this point, I trust Jokic and the Nuggets more. Take the points. Take the Nuggets at the best betting sites.
