The NBA’s Northwest Division should be an exciting division heading into a new NBA season this year. The Northwest consists of five teams the Utah Jazz, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trail Blazers, and Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Jazz sold off their two best players and got a ton in return. However, the Jazz is now in rebuild mode with many young pieces and draft picks. Utah won the division last year, but likely won’t be winning it this year.

Meanwhile, the Denver Nuggets will get some essential pieces back this year. Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. missed Denver’s entire season last year. Those two players are two of the top three players on the Nuggets. There’s also the Minnesota Timberwolves, who added Rudy Gobert to their stacked team. Minnesota could easily win the division this season with their starting lineup.

Finally, Portland and Oklahoma City are young and inexperienced. It’s unlikely that either of these teams makes the postseason, but anything can happen in the NBA. Here are my thoughts on win totals for each team in the Northwest Division.

Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets are projected to win the division this year. The lineup will likely have Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr., Aaron Gordon, and Nikola Jokic. The final piece in the starting lineup would be Kentavious Caldwell-Pope or Jeff Green.

Denver also added Christian Braun in the NBA Draft and has a lot of interesting former college players on the roster.

The depth isn’t all that great for Denver, but some interesting pieces on this team include Collin Gillespie, Grant Golden, Peyton Watson, Adonis Arms, and Kellan Grady.

With Nikola Jokic coming off another MVP award, the Nuggets are in much better shape than last year. I’ll take the Over 49.5 wins for this squad.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Minnesota traded a lot of depth to bring in Rudy Gobert. The Timberwolves now have Karl-Anthony Towns paired up with Rudy Gobert down low. They’ll also have D’Angelo Russell and Anthony Edwards in the starting lineup.

Minnesota’s team could be lethal. Sometimes Gobert doesn’t get the credit he deserves. Every year, the Jazz would make the playoffs thanks to Mitchell and Gobert.

They didn’t have the pieces to win an NBA title, but the Jazz were consistently excellent in the regular season, with the big man defending the middle.

Minnesota has depth on its roster, but not a single player that scored 10 points last season on the bench. So they’ll need a couple of players to step up off the bench. Still, I like Minnesota to earn over on their win total.

Portland Trail Blazers

The Blazers are projected to win 40 games this year. Damian Lillard should be healthy and ready to go this season.

He’ll also have Jerami Grant and Jusuf Nurkic on the roster to go along with Josh Hart. Anfernee Simons and Gary Payton II will be solid off the bench.

Shaedon Sharpe could also make an immediate impact, but this team doesn’t feel like a 40-win team. I’ll take the Under with the Blazers.

Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz has an exciting team this year. Sure, they’re in rebuild mode. But they still have Mike Conley Jr. to pair up with Collin Sexton.

Talen Horton-Tucker and Lauri Markkanen are also guys who can have significant success with Utah. Don’t forget that the Jazz will also have Walker Kessler and Ochai Agbaji along with Johnny Juzang.

There’s so much talent on this roster. It’s an inexperienced talent for the most part, but there’s talent. Utah might surprise this year. For that reason, I’ll take over.

Oklahoma City Thunder

The Thunder won’t have Chet Holmgren this season after he was injured during the offseason. So there’s that. That’s the season.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will be the critical piece for the Thunder, but there’s also a good chance he gets traded for a bunch of young assets along with draft picks.

The Thunder will have Josh Giddey to work with, but beyond that, Oklahoma City looks like the worst team in the NBA without their first-round pick heading into this season. Give me the Under 23.5.
