Indiana Pacers vs. Philadelphia 76ers

Monday, October 24, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at Wells Fargo Center

76ers Prop Bet: Joel Embiid

  • Over 12.5 rebounds

Yes, this looks like a lot, but it is for good reason. The Philadelphia 76ers are 0-3 after starting the season with such high hopes.

The NBA is a grueling 82-game marathon, so all is not lost, but the 76ers definitely need a win to get themselves going in the right direction.

They have just the opponent to do that. The Indiana Pacers are in a full-fledged rebuild.

Indiana Pacers

The Pacers have an exciting young point guard in Tyrese Haliburton and good young wing prospects, but currently, their depth in the middle is lacking.

The Pacers plan to have their rim protection and rebounding duties led by Myles Turner. Turner, unfortunately, stepped on a ball boy's foot warming up for their opening night tip and has been out with a sprained ankle.

Without Turner in the lineup, this frontline is dangerously thin. If the Sixers had started hot, it would be easy to see them overlooking this Pacer squad. But at 0-3, they need to do everything they can to gain momentum; and that starts with their star player Joel Embiid.

The Pacers have no one to keep Embiid off the glass and 76ers coach Doc Rivers has plenty of incentive to keep Embiid in the game, even with a big lead.

The 76ers need to turn the feeling of this team around from losing to winning. Therefore, we should expect their starters to get more minutes than they usually would, even in a blowout.

Boston Celtics vs. Chicago Bulls

Monday, October 24, 2022 - 08:00 PM EDT at United Center

Bulls' Prop Bets: DeMar DeRozan

  • Under 23.5 points

The Chicago Bulls addition of DeMar DeRozan has been huge for this team's ability to close games.

DeRozan can usually get a clutch mid-range jumper to fall when needing to protect a lead.

Unfortunately for DeRozan and the Bulls, I don't think they will have a lead to protect tonight.

The Bulls will be hosting the reigning Eastern Conference champions, the Boston Celtics, who despite the loss of Robert Williams and head coach Ime Udoka are rolling right along.

Boston Celtics

The Celtics have been winning behind the strength of their two wings, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

Both Brown and Tatum are excellent two-way players, who can create advantage scoring opportunities on one end and shut down their opponents on the other.

This means that even if the Bulls try to use DeRozan in pick and rolls to switch on opponents, it's going to be very hard for him to find players to target.

DeRozan's Skills

DeRozan's initial matchup will most likely be against Jaylen Brown, but even players such as Marcus Smart, Derrick White, and Al Horford, will not be easy to work against on the switches.

DeRozan is a crafty veteran who uses his skills and fundamentals to find the shots. Running mate Zach LaVine, who has incredible physical gifts, will be more adept at beating this Celtics defense.

Because of the athleticism needed to beat the Celtics, the Bulls will use Zach LaVine more to create their offense than DeRozan tonight. It could be a quiet night in what I expect to be a low scoring game.

Brooklyn Nets vs. Memphis Grizzlies

Monday, October 24, 2022 - 08:00 PM EDT at FedExForum

Nets' Prop Bet: Ben Simmons

  • Over 7.5 points

Ben Simmons became one of the most maligned players in basketball after his refusal to play for the Philadelphia 76ers forced a trade to the Brooklyn Nets, and then he missed the rest of the season with a back injury. His commitment to the game has been questioned.

Amidst all the jokes and criticisms, people will forget that Ben Simmons is an incredibly talented player. He has great handles for a man of his size, can accelerate to get to the rim, and has a beautiful passing vision. However, he does lack a jump shot.

Fortunately for Simmons, shooting jumpers is not the only way to score in the NBA. Simmons will have plenty of opportunities to get to the rim tonight against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis should be selling out to stop Brooklyn stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, which should give Simmons an opportunity to work against smaller defenders. Steven Adams will provide some defense for the Grizzlies in the middle.

Still, Simmons has enough finishing ability to convert on his layups, even in traffic, and I will not be surprised to see Adams getting into foul trouble against Simmons and Irving's relentless attacks on the rim.

Simmons' Issues with Fans

People don't want to bet on Simmons because, let's be honest, people don't like Ben Simmons. Yes, that is understandable.

When people are working hard and they see someone who has been incredibly gifted be cavalier about their talents, the frustration is understandable.

However, that has led to an overreaction to the actual analysis of his ability to play the sport of basketball. We will take advantage of this negative narrative to make a profitable wager.
