Charlotte Hornets vs. Detroit Pistons

Thursday, March 09, 2023 – 07:00 PM EST at Little Caesars Arena

Teams Analysis

Charlotte Hornets

The Hornets bounced back in their last game with a win over the red-hot Knicks, but without LaMelo Ball on the roster, the Hornets are likely cooked for the rest of the year.

Charlotte has already lost two games to the Pistons earlier this year. The Hornets ended up winning the most recent game. But at 21-46, it’s time for Charlotte to tank the rest of the season with Ball out of the lineup.

The Hornets are currently the worst offense in the NBA, scoring just 109.5 points per 100 possessions. They’ve also shot an effective field goal percentage of 51.4%, the worst in the league. The Hornets could end up with some offensive rebounds but typically don’t get to the foul line often.

Detroit Pistons

The Pistons are better offensively, but the Hornets are better defensively.

The Pistons only score 110.8 points per 100 possessions while shooting an effective field goal percentage of 52.5%.

Detroit will succeed on the offensive glass and should be able to get to the foul line at a much higher rate. Those are the two areas where the Pistons are above-average. That should help carry the Pistons to a win at home.

The Pick

Both teams will want to tank for the rest of the season, but somebody has to win. The Pistons have played in two closer games recently and have the edge on the offensive end against the Hornets.

Utah Jazz vs. Orlando Magic

Thursday, March 09, 2023 – 07:00 PM EST at Amway Center

Teams Analysis

Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz defeated the Orlando Magic on January 13 in a 112-108 victory. But recently, the Magic have struggled to do much of anything. They’ve lost four straight games, allowing at least 120 points in three of those four.

The offense is still above-average, scoring nearly 117 points per 100 possessions. The Jazz has also shot a 55.3% effective field goal percentage while earning almost 30% offensive rebounds. However, Utah should turn the ball over at a high rate and won’t dominate the glass against the Magic, who have allowed just 25.8% of offensive rebounds this season.

Orlando Magic

On the other hand, the Magic have struggled offensively, adding only 111.7 points per 100 possessions. Utah should end up allowing a high rate of points to the Magic.

However, the Magic scored 123 against the Bucks and 119 against Portland. They still lost those two games. But overall, Orlando needs to get quality looks and turn the ball over 165% of the time. They’ll succeed on the offensive glass, but that’s about it.

The Pick

Following the NBA odds, I’ll back the Jazz and their offense in tonight’s game. Orlando won’t be able to keep up, just like their last couple of games.

Brooklyn Nets vs. Milwaukee Bucks

Thursday, March 09, 2023 – 08:00 PM EST at Fiserv Forum

Teams Analysis

Brooklyn Nets

The Bucks have defeated the Nets in two of three games this year. The Nets’ most recent game against the Bucks was a bust. This was with their new-look team, losing 118-104.

Brooklyn is starting to heat up though. The Nets have won three straight games while holding all three opponents to 105 points or fewer. The defense is picking up.

The offense will always be good enough. Brooklyn has still shot a 57.3% effective field goal percentage with 115.3 points per 100 possessions. The Nets don’t dominate the offensive glass and don’t get to the foul line at a high rate though.

Milwaukee Bucks

The Bucks are known for their defense. No offense. The Bucks have scored just 115 points per 100 possessions. They’ve also added a 55.2% effective field goal percentage.

The offensive glass will help them earn extra possessions and second chances. That will ultimately push the Bucks to victory, but they’re not going to score at a very high rate against the Nets, especially with the Bucks rarely getting to the foul line.

The Pick

The Nets are starting to click defensively and the Bucks have always been one of the best defenses in the NBA.

With the total sitting at 230, I’ll be taking the Under in this matchup for your NBA picks. The Nets might not even get to 100 points tonight. Plus, Brooklyn has held its last two opponents to below 100.
