It worked for our last NBA picks, so we’re betting against the Dallas Mavericks again this Wednesday. What else is on the menu?
I love it when a plan comes together. We got 2 out of 3 right for our last batch of daily NBA picks, correctly taking the Orlando Magic (+10) this past Sunday in their 114-105 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, and Over 228 when the Phoenix Suns beat the Houston Rockets 124-109. Ball don’t lie.
Now we’ve got another busy Wednesday night slate coming up, with 11 games to choose from and another chance to pound one of the two matchups on ESPN’s weekly double-header. I can smell the profit all the way from our home office. Let’s get some.
Utah Jazz vs. Dallas Mavericks
Wednesday, November 2, 2022 – 08:30 PM EDT at American Airlines Center
This game should be worth the standard one-unit bet now that the NBA odds have moved in our favor, and yes, we’ll be fading the Mavericks again. It’s just the right thing to do.
For a while there, it looked like the Jazz (6-2 SU, 5-3 ATS) was finally coming back down to earth after starting the year with 3 straight upset victories. Then they went and swept the Memphis Grizzlies as small home dogs on Saturday and Monday.
There are simply too many quality players on this team if they’re serious about tanking, even if Lauri Markkanen (plus-2.5 BPM at Basketball Reference) is the best of the bunch.
Nothing against the Mavericks (3-3 SU, 3-2-1 ATS), but they’re over-valued in this matchup. As good as their offense looks with Luka Dončić (plus-12.0 BPM) leading the way, the Dallas defense only ranks No. 16 in the league at 109.6 points allowed per 100 possessions.
Big man Christian Wood is also questionable for this game with a non-COVID illness.
The Spread Pick
The profit margins aren’t as big in Utah as they were when the season began, but if you were an early adopter, well done, you know your hoops. Pound them one more time at this price; other sportsbooks have Utah as short as +5.5.
Memphis Grizzlies vs. Portland Trail Blazers
Wednesday, November 2, 2022 - 10:00 PM EDT at Moda Center
The Grizzlies may have fallen flat in Utah, but they’re the best choice for Wednesday’s NBA picks (assuming they’re available at the same) 135 where they opened overseas. Odds on this side of the pond are still pending at press time.
Again, losing to Utah is no shame. The Grizzlies are still on the right side of .500 at 4-3, although their defense has fallen all the way to No. 27 in efficiency at 116.3 points allowed/100. They’ve also got several players listed as day-to-day heading into this matchup.
- SG Desmond Bane (ankle)
- C Steven Adams (mouth)
- PF Brandon Clarke (hand)
Portland Trail Blazers
This pick is more about fading the 5-1 Blazers, who have split a pair since sweeping their first four games SU and ATS. They won’t have PG Damian Lillard (calf) for this contest, and SF Josh Hart is questionable after entering the league’s concussion protocol on Saturday.
The Moneyline Pick
With all the potential absences for the Grizz, it’s easy to see why most of the best sportsbooks are taking their sweet time before posting their NBA lines. But definitely hop on Memphis for a unit if you see them at a good price once you get their roster update for Wednesday.
Atlanta Hawks vs. New York Knicks
Wednesday, November 2, 2022 - 07:30 PM EDT at Madison Square Garden
The Knicks kept us from sweeping last Sunday’s NBA picks, but even if they lose Wednesday night, they can help us out by doing their usual Knick things.
The Hawks (Over 5-2) are not the ideal team to be betting the Under with, but we’ll catch a break if PF Onyeka Okongwu (shoulder) ends up sitting, and Frank Kaminsky III soaks up those frontcourt minutes off the bench.
New York Knicks
Again, cover your eyes: the Knicks have the Over at 5-1 this year. That’s not normal, though. New York’s defense (No. 8 overall) is still better than their offense (No. 12), which is about what you’d expect from a Tom Thibodeau team.
The Total Pick
This one’s only worth a fun-size bet, but the fine folks at Heritage Sports are on our side with their usual -108 deal on juice. Bet accordingly, and may the sphere be with you.
NBA Pick: Under 228.5 (-108) at Heritage Sports
