San Antonio Spurs vs. Indiana Pacers

Friday, October 21, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at Gainbridge Fieldhouse

Teams Analysis

San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs will visit the Indiana Pacers for one of tonight’s many NBA matchups.

The Spurs looked completely lost on Wednesday, losing to the Charlotte Hornets at home, 129-102. The offense scored just 91.7 points per 100 possessions and shot an effective field goal percentage of 42%. San Antonio rarely got to the line and turned the ball over 15.6% of the time.

Keldon Johnson led the team in the game with 20 points and 11 rebounds, but the Spurs are in complete tank mode this season with the roster they’re throwing out there.

Indiana Pacers

Meanwhile, the Pacers also lost 114-107 to the Washington Wizards. Indiana put up more of a fight. They held the Wizards to 107.6 points per 100 possessions while allowing a 52.2% effective field goal percentage. Those were about average numbers to begin the season.

The Pacers weren’t great on the defensive glass, but Indiana did earn 16.2% of turnovers while keeping Washington to a free throw rate of 20.9.

On the other hand, the Pacers scored 103.9 points per 100 possessions with an effective field goal percentage of 47.9%. Tyrese Haliburton led the way with 26 points and 7 assists. They turned the ball over 14.6% of the time but earned 29% of offensive rebounds.

The Pick

The Pacers might not get to the foul line much in this game. However, the Spurs looked terrible defensively in their first game and likely will play the same way tonight.

Let’s take the Pacers against the moneyline for our NBA picks.

Boston Celtics vs. Miami Heat

Friday, October 21, 2022 - 07:30 PM EDT at FTX Arena

Teams Analysis

Boston Celtics

The Celtics were impressive on Tuesday, defeating the Philadelphia 76ers 126-117. The offense was electric, scoring 132.6 points per 100 possessions against a Philadelphia team expected to have excellent defense coming into the season.

The Celtics could do no wrong. They got a 64.2% effective field goal percentage and turned the ball over just 11.6% of the time while getting to the line at a very high rate.

On the other hand, Boston didn’t play any better defensively, giving up 119.8 points per 100 possessions. The Celtics also allowed a 58.1% effective field goal percentage and allowed the 76ers to get to the line at will.

The Celtics won’t be this bad defensively moving forward, but maybe having a new coach and playing without Robert Williams III will hurt them to start the season.

Miami Heat

Meanwhile, the Miami Heat allowed 116 to the Chicago Bulls in a 116-108 loss on Wednesday. The Heat allowed 108.4 points per 100 possessions and an effective field goal percentage of 51.6%. The Heat was an average defense against a Bulls team that didn’t have two-star players on the roster.

The Heat shot an effective field goal percentage of 53.8% and could get to the foul line at a high rate in their game against the Bulls. Miami lacked offensive rebounding and turned the ball over 18.1% of the time.

If the Heat can keep turnovers down and do slightly better on the offensive glass, they’ll score more than 101.9 points per 100 possessions.

Chicago Bulls vs. Washington Wizards

Friday, October 21, 2022 - 07:00 PM EDT at Capital One Arena

Teams Analysis

The Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards will look to keep their undefeated streaks alive!

It’s just one game, but both teams earned wins in their debuts. Now they’ll try and keep that momentum into tonight’s game.

Chicago Bulls

The Bulls are currently without Lonzo Ball and Zach LaVine. LaVine will be back soon, but Ball could miss the entire year.

The Bulls scored 108.4 points per 100 possessions in the season's first game. They were average everywhere but got to the line at a higher rate.

Washington Wizards

Meanwhile, Washington’s defense against the Pacers was excellent. They held Indiana to 103.9 points per 100 possessions while allowing a 47.9% effective field goal percentage. The Bulls got to the line a lot in their opener, but Washington limited foul shots in their first game of the season.

The Wizards should ultimately have more opportunities at the line against the Bulls. They also shot a 52.2% effective field goal percentage in their opener.

The Pick

If the Wizards can limit turnovers, they’ll win this game at home against a short-handed Bulls team.
