NBA Pick: Knicks +2 (-110) at BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review)
With so much action tonight, here are our top three NBA picks for some of the premier games on the slate.
Miami Heat vs. New York Knicks
Thursday, February 2, 2023 – 07:30 PM EST at Madison Square Garden
The Miami Heat are starting to play much better basketball. They’re currently 29-23 and have won four of their last five games. That includes a win on the road against the Cavaliers last time out.
The Heat haven’t been great offensively throughout the year. The offense has earned just 112 points per 100 possessions while shooting an effective field goal percentage of 52.3%. Against the Knicks, they will need help to get quality looks from the field. However, Miami should be able to limit turnovers and earn enough second-chance opportunities while getting to the line at an average rate.
The Knicks have held teams to a 53.3% effective field goal percentage. Opponents have also shot a free throw rate of 20.9, which is 14th defensively in the NBA. Still, teams have scored 115.1 points per 100 possessions against the Knicks. That’s due to the Knicks’ lack of turnovers and defensive rebounding. With Mitchell Robinson out, the Knicks have needed help in the rebounding category.
Meanwhile, the Knicks have an electric offense that has added 116.6 points per 100 possessions. They don’t always get the best looks, but they do everything else, including limiting turnovers, offensive rebounding, and getting to the foul line.
New York has kept turnovers down to 13.1%. That’s crucial, knowing the Heat have earned 17% of turnovers. If Miami can’t get turnovers out of the Knicks, they’ll struggle. Miami has also allowed 24.9% of offensive rebounds from its opponents. Still, I’d trust the Knicks’ offense more, even with the Heat playing at a high level.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Dallas Mavericks
Thursday, February 2, 2023 - 08:30 PM EST at American Airlines Center
Once Zion Williamson comes back, the Pelicans will be at full strength. For now, the Pelicans are struggling. They’ve lost their last five games and have scored 113 or fewer in every game. The offense could progress against Dallas, though.
Dallas has allowed 115.7 points per 100 possessions and is fouling at the highest rate in the NBA. Meanwhile, the Pelicans get to the foul line at a top-seven rate and earn 28.2% of offensive rebounds. The offense needs to be better, but with C.J. McCollum and Brandon Ingram back in the lineup, things should eventually start to click.
On the other hand, the Mavericks have scored 116.6 points per 100 possessions. They’re also shooting a 56.6% effective field goal percentage and have limited turnovers to 12.7%. The offense usually struggles on the glass, but they’ve also had no problems getting to the foul line.
The Pelicans have held opponents to 112.9 points per 100 possessions, which is 8th in the NBA defensively. They’ll be superb on the defensive glass and not allow the Mavericks to earn many second chances. But Dallas will still get plenty of shots due to their lack of turnovers and aggressiveness to get to the foul line. After looking at the NBA odds, let’s take the Mavericks at -4.5 here.
NBA Pick: Mavericks -4.5 (-110) at BetOnline
Golden State Warriors vs. Denver Nuggets
Thursday, February 2, 2023 - 09:00 PM EST at Ball Arena
In this game, the Nuggets have listed Aaron Gordon as questionable for an ankle injury. On the other hand, it sounds like Steph Curry and Draymond Green won’t be available for the Warriors. That’s why the Nuggets are 12-point favorites at home.
Denver’s offense is the best in the NBA. They’ve added 119.1 points per 100 possessions while shooting an effective field goal percentage of 58.7%. The offense has grabbed 27.5% of offensive rebounds and has at least limited turnovers to under 15%.
The Warriors won’t be as electric on the offensive end. But Denver has never been that great defensively. The team is giving up 114.6 points per 100 possessions while allowing an effective field goal percentage of 55%.
Golden State won’t dominate the offensive glass against Denver, but I do like the Warriors to get quality looks from the floor, no matter who is playing for them in this game. I’ll back the Over 233. The Warriors will always get good looks, and the Nuggets are the best offense in the NBA.
