The Utah Jazz will take on the Golden State Warriors in a game without Donovan Mitchell. Can the Jazz find a way, on the road, against a 33-13 Warriors squad?

Let’s break down the NBA odds for this late-night matchup out in the West Coast.

Utah Jazz vs. Golden State Warriors

Sunday, January 23, 2022 – 08:30 PM EST at Chase Center

Betting Preview

The Golden State Warriors have had a bit of trouble without Draymond Green in the lineup. The Warriors have won three of their last five games, however, the Warriors lost to a shorthanded Pacers team and were blown out by Minnesota in that five games stretch.

On top of that, the Warriors only beat the Houston Rockets by two points thanks to a Steph Curry clutch shot. But things haven’t been great for the Warriors, who will now take on a Jazz team that still is without Donovan Mitchell. Keep in mind that the Jazz are one of the deepest teams in the league.

However, Utah also lost to Houston, at home, 116-111 before beating the Pistons, 111-101 on Friday. Tonight’s game will feature the best offense in Utah and the best defense in Golden State.

Betting Analysis

The Jazz are scoring 117.5 points per 100 possessions while the Warriors are allowing teams to score just 103.5 points per 100 possessions this season.

Utah is also shooting an effective field goal percentage of 56.2 percent while the Warriors allow teams to shoot just a 50.2 percent effective field goal percentage. The difference here is in the turnovers and free throws.

The Warriors will force a heavy dosage of turnovers, gaining 15.8 percent of them. Meanwhile, the Jazz are giving the ball up 14.2 percent of the time, so there’s reason to think that the Warriors can earn more turnovers in this game.

On the other hand, the Jazz are the best team at getting to the line consistently and the Warriors will foul at an above-average rate. While the Warriors only score 110.8 points per 100 possessions, Golden State is shooting a 54.7 percent effective field goal percentage.

The Warriors turn the ball over 15.9 percent of the time, which is extremely high, but the Jazz only force turnovers 12.2 percent of the time, which is extremely low.

However, the Jazz rarely sends teams to the line and if Utah can keep the Warriors from getting easy buckets at the line, there’s a good chance that the Jazz sticks around in this game thanks to their defense.

Betting Prediction

Tonight, I think we see more defense than anything else. Of course, the Warriors are the best team in the NBA defensively and will force a high amount of turnovers to keep the Jazz off the board.

Meanwhile, the Jazz won’t force as many turnovers against the Warriors as other teams but will keep the Warriors away from the foul line.

Those two categories should help this game stay under the total. The Jazz have been held under 100 points in two of their last five games while the Warriors have held opponents at 103 points or below in three of its last five.
