The Utah Jazz have started the season 7-3 after trading away Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell. Can the new-look Jazz continue their success against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday?

Let’s see what the NBA odds tell us at the top sportsbooks!

Utah Jazz vs. Los Angeles Clippers

Sunday, November 06, 2022 – 09:00 PM EST at Crypto.com Arena

The Utah Jazz are surprisingly leading the Northwest division heading into their road game against the Clippers. The Jazz knocked off the Lakers, 130-116 on November 4, and have won three of their last four games. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers have won three straight games, despite Kawhi Leonard being out of the lineup.

The Jazz have proven that depth matters in the NBA. Utah doesn’t have a star player but they’ve got plenty of depth throughout their roster. Can the Clippers overcome that depth and earn a win at home?

The Utah Jazz on Offense

The Jazz are scoring 115.8 points per 100 possessions this season. They’ve also shot a 54.7% effective field goal percentage and have dominated on the offensive glass, earning 31.9% of offensive rebounds.

Utah is going to struggle to get to the foul line. They’ve got a free throw rate of 17.1, which is 29th in the league. They’re also taking on a Clippers team that has allowed a 14.1 free throw rate. That’s the best defensive rate in the NBA.

Capitalizing on Turnovers?

The Jazz have turned the ball over 15.6% of the time this year. But Los Angeles hasn’t been able to capitalize on many mistakes this year, only earning 12.7% of turnovers.  Utah’s getting 22.2 points a night from Lauri Markkanen. He’s averaging 51.5% from the field and has been the Jazz’s most consistent player.

Markkanen has also earned 9.4 rebounds, with 2.3 coming on the offensive end. Meanwhile, Mike Conley has distributed 7.4 assists per game in 30.8 minutes.

The Clippers have still held teams to 107.5 points per possession and 50.5% effective field goal percentage on the defensive end this year. Utah will get plenty of second chances, but they’ll have to capitalize, especially on the road.

The Clippers On Offense

The Clippers have been very inconsistent offensively. They’re scoring just 103.2 points per 100 possessions and have turned the ball over 16.9% of the time. On top of that, the Clippers have only earned 22% of offensive rebounds and have a low free-throw rate, with a 17.3 FT rate.

Paul George has led the Clippers with 23.8 pints on 46.9% from the field. He also leads the team in assists with just 4.9 per game.

Ivica Zubac has really grown into his role, earning 10 points and 11.6 rebounds per night. It’s always nice when your starting center is averaging a double-double.

Getting To the Charity Stripe

The Jazz have been an average group defensively, They’ve held teams to 112.4 points per 100 possessions. They’re done well limiting an effective field goal percentage and continue to earn over 16% of turnovers. However, they’ve also allowed 32.2% offensive rebounds.

The Clippers haven’t dominated the offensive glass, but they should get more second chances than their normal average in this game.

You also can’t expect the Clippers to earn a high volume of free throw attempts

Prediction and Picks

The Clippers have plenty of offensive talent. They’ve just been unhealthy for most of the season. Kawhi Leonard has only played in two games, John Wall and Marcus Morris each missed two games, and Robert Covington has only played in five.

Leonard, Covington, and Kennard will likely be out for the Clippers. Meanwhile, the Jazz should be at full strength, with six players scoring in double figures.

The Clippers should still struggle offensively, even at home. The turnovers could get high, and the offensive rebounds haven’t been coming at a consistent pace this year.

Meanwhile, the Jazz have been much more consistent offensively, and while they won’t get to the line very much, they’ll have more second chances. That means more shot attempts, which means more opportunities to score points for our NBA picks.

Let’s back the Jazz at +4 and the Under 222.
