Miami Heat vs. Phoenix Suns

Saturday, January 08, 2022 – 09:00 PM EST at Footprint Center

Betting Preview

The Miami Heat are staying on the road to take on one of the hottest teams in the NBA in the Phoenix Suns. The Heat have already played four straight road games, where they’ve gone 2-2 in those games.

Miami is coming off a win against Portland but has losses to Golden State and Sacramento prior to defeating the Houston Rockets to start the road trip.

Betting Analysis

The Heat are playing well offensively this season, scoring 112.5 points per 100 possessions. Miami has a 53.7 percent effective field goal percentage and dominates the offensive glass with 28 percent offensive rebounds.

Miami is even capable of getting to the line at a high rate, but the one area of concern for Miami has been turnovers. The Heat are turning the ball over 15 percent of the time this season and they’ll take on a Phoenix Suns team that averages 15.4 percent turnovers on the season.

The Suns are one of the best defenses in the NBA and will present a problem to the Heat. Phoenix has held opponents to just 104.5 points per 100 possessions while allowing teams to shoot a 50.4 percent effective field goal percentage.

Defensive End

Both of those numbers are top three in the league in their respective categories and prove just how dominant Phoenix is on the defensive end. There is room for Miami to gain offensive rebounds, knowing Phoenix is just average on the defensive glass, but overall, the turnovers that Miami should commit will wash away those second chance opportunities a little bit.

On the other hand, the Suns are scoring 112.9 points per 100 possessions while shooting a 54.5 percent effective field goal percentage.

The Suns, unlike the Heat, rarely turn the ball over, but they’ll be taking on a Heat team that earns nearly 16 percent turnovers this season. The Heat can win the battle on the defensive glass but as long as Phoenix keeps the turnovers down, things will be alright.

The Suns have won three straight games against the Hornets, Pelicans, and Clippers. All of those games were won by double digits. There’s really no stopping the Suns right now. Offensively, the Suns have been on point and defensively, they’ve held two of their last three opponents to under 100 points.

Expert Prediction

Recently, Miami’s defense has been a bit off. Most games that Miami has played have been high-scoring games. The offense is playing well but the defense is just off right now.

The totals in Miami’s last five games have been 224, 223, 228, 230, and 231. So with the total sitting at 216, even with how well the Suns have played defense recently, I like the over to hit in this game for my NBA pick.
