Memphis Grizzlies vs. Brooklyn Nets

Brooklyn Getting a Bit Stagnant
The Nets' recent struggles have been down to their offense which is not what you would expect to hear about this group. They had a double-digit lead with less than 6 minutes left in their recent loss to the Clippers. They were outscored 28-11 to close the game. I went back and watched and what I saw was a team that just played sloppy basketball to close out the game. There's something else going on that head coach Steve Nash is going to have to fix.
This team doesn't really get as many easy baskets as they should. During this two-game losing streak, they've only gotten 6.5 fast break points per game which is 25th in the league. In this season, Brooklyn ranks 10th in that category.
Their half-court offense also hasn't looked great in the last two games. Too many possessions often end with either James Harden or Kevin Durant bailing them out with their superior offensive talent. In the long run, that won't be enough to win a championship which is the only acceptable outcome for this group.
Tonight, they are -7 home favorites at the NBA odds board against a very good Memphis team that has won four in a row and is growing in confidence. I think this line is a little bit disrespectful to Memphis, honestly, and should be closer to -5.5 or -6 at most. That's the reason I will be taking the points with the Grizzlies in this spot.
Memphis Getting Better Every Month
With each passing month of the season, we're getting to see a young Memphis Grizzlies team grow up before our eyes.
They were playing so well at one point that when Ja Morant returned from injury and the team lost a couple of times, some idiot in the crowd told him he needed to sit out again. I say that person is an idiot because if they are really a Grizzlies fan, then, there's no way they can honestly believe this team is better without the most talented player they've ever drafted.
Of course, that fan was wrong and the Grizzlies have not looked back since, winning their last four games in impressive fashion. They have won 7 of their last 10 and will be getting bodies back sooner rather than later.
What's most impressive to me about what Memphis is doing is how good they've been on offense this year. I mentioned earlier that Brooklyn's offense hasn't exactly been up to par and the best indication of that is Memphis (9th in offensive efficiency) is actually ranked ahead of them (12th).
Tonight, I do think that Brooklyn executes their offense and tries to be less careless with the ball. I do also think that the Grizzlies will be up for their trip to New York, especially Morant who I expect to put on a show. He's virtually unguardable anyway but this Brooklyn roster is particularly ill-equipped to slow him down. I think Brooklyn wins outright but the Grizzlies cover the spread which is why they are my official NBA pick.
