Boston Celtics vs. Miami Heat

Sunday, May 29, 2022- 08:30 PM EDT at FTX Arena

We’ve got a Game 7 on our hands in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Boston Celtics needed just one more win to make the NBA Finals, at home, as massive favorites in Game 6.

Butler Changed Celtics Plans

However, Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler and his supporting cast had other plans. Butler played a near-perfect game to help send the Eastern Conference Finals to a Game 7.

Now the Miami Heat will be headed back home for Game 7. Does that mean the Heat have the advantage to move on to the second Finals in three seasons?

Here are our picks, predictions, and betting odds for Sunday's game between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat.

Celtics vs. Heat: Game 6 Recap

The Miami Heat were bad from the floor in Games 4 and 5. There was like no hope remaining for the Heat coming into Game 6. Even Tyler Herro was ruled out for Game 6.

The thought was that the Heat would eventually fold on the road. Instead, Jimmy Butler put on a show for the ages.

Heat Game 6 Performance

It wasn’t only Butler though, it was his teammates who stepped up to make big shots as well. Butler put on the best performance possible.

  • He scored 47 points on 16-of-29 from the field with four three-pointers downtown. That’s unheard of for Butler.
  • In the last couple of games, the Heat weren’t shooting at a high rate. However, things clicked in Game 6 with the Heat shooting 42.9% from downtown on 35 attempts.

He's been inconsistent throughout the playoffs, especially in this series, but he came alive at the perfect time to keep the Heat alive.

Oddly enough, the Heat clicked on the road. Miami also shot 46.2% from the floor and nailed 24-of-25 from the foul line.

The Celtics were still able to stick around throughout the game, but nobody had an answer to how to stop Butler.

The Heat also got points from:

  • 18 points from Kyle Lowry
  • 13 from Max Strus
  • 11 from P.J. Tucker

The depth finally started to take shape for the Heat.

However, both teams were sloppy with the ball in this one. Both teams were very close to having 20 turnovers in the game.

I think it’s obvious but whichever team is able to minimize those turnovers will benefit in Game 7 and probably win.

Celtics Game 6 Performance

For the Celtics, Jayson Tatum added 30 points on just 9-for-12 from the field. The Heat did a great job defending him to not allow him to get shots up.

When he was able to shoot, he scored. The Celtics will need to find ways to get Tatum more shots in Game 7.

Derrick White was the x-factor for the Celtics, as he added 22 points off the bench to give the Celtics some great minutes.

Celtics vs. Heat: Game 7 Winning Expectation

The Boston Celtics are still projected to win Game 7. It took a masterpiece performance out of Butler to help the Heat win Game 6.

It would be hard to replicate that kind of performance again in Game 7. The Celtics would love to make other Heat players perform instead of allowing Butler to go off.

But in Game 6, the Heat knocked down open looks and shot the ball well. If that continues, it’ll be hard for Boston to get stops on the defensive end.

Tatum Needs Celtics Support

Meanwhile, Jayson Tatum added 30 points for the Celtics while only taking 12 shots from the field. The Celtics will need to create more open looks for Tatum to get him going from the field.

He was so aggressive that if he took the number of shots Butler did, Tatum would’ve ended up with a much better stat line offensively when it comes to points.

Marcus Smart only shot 4-for-15 from the field in Game 6 and Al Horford added one field goal in 33 minutes.

Those guys need to step up in Game 6 along with Tatum and Jaylen Brown, who scored 20 points in Game 6. And they will.

Celtics vs. Heat: Game Prediction

With that said, I’ll be taking the Celtics against the spread in this one. Boston is still a favorite to win this game, despite being on the road in a Game 7.

Home-court advantage hasn’t been much of an advantage in this series and realistically, the Heat would need another ridiculous performance out of Jimmy Butler to even come close to winning this game.

Who to Bet On?

Game 6 went perfect for the Heat and yet they still almost lost that game. Give me the Celtics at -2.5 for your NBA pick of the day.
