The short-handed Atlanta Hawks will host the Chicago Bulls on Monday night. The Hawks were already struggling without the health and safety protocol issues that they are currently facing.

The Bulls meanwhile have most of their roster available for this one which is why they come into this one as heavy road favorites. Let’s see what the NBA odds for this matchup tell us!

Chicago Bulls vs. Atlanta Hawks

Monday, December 27, 2021 – 07:30 PM EST at State Farm Arena

Hawks Are Extremely Short-Handed

Playing without Trae Young is always going to be tough for the Hawks. When John Collins was added to health and safety protocols after the Christmas Day game, it put Atlanta in an almost impossible position. Of their top seven players, four of them are unavailable. There are nine Hawks currently in health and safety protocols which puts this already struggling team at an obvious disadvantage.

The Bulls are -6-point road favorites in large part to the availability of their players. For me, this line seems short. Even if the Hawks were completely healthy, they would still be underdogs in this spot. If the Bulls have shown us anything, they've at least proven that they are one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. That is why they only trail the Brooklyn Nets by a half-game at the moment. The Hawks meanwhile have been inconsistent for a long period.

Atlanta has lost 8 of their last 12 games and really hasn't been able to find any level of consistency at all this year. In fact, the Hawks have only won consecutive games on two occasions this season through 32 games played.

Bulls One of League’s Best Teams

I was as skeptical as anyone about the Bulls' chances when the season started. It's not that I didn't believe in them, it's that the general public seemed convinced that they would be good. That alone made me inherently suspicious but it was more than that.

First of all, I was not sure that Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan could coexist. I have been proven very wrong by that which is a nice surprise. The other thing I didn't see coming was the level of their defense.

Chicago is top ten in the league in both defense (9th) and offense (6th) as well. That is why the Bulls are currently the 4th best team in the league against the spread (ATS)at 19-11. The Hawks for their part are the 4th worst ATS team in the league at 13-19.

Chicago will be without Lonzo Ball who entered the league's health and safety protocols as well as Alex Caruso with a foot injury. While those two have mostly been role players on their previous teams, they've really seemed to find their niche in Chicago and are a big part of what this team does.

Although Ball came into the league with a ton of hype surrounding his passing ability, he's actually one of the best defensive guards in the NBA. Caruso for his part is no slouch in that department and the two have really helped the Bulls set the tone in most of their games.

Even without them tonight, I think for my NBA pick that Chicago covers this spread without much fuss against this extremely short-handed Atlanta team.
