Milwaukee Bucks vs. New York Knicks
Wednesday, November 10, 2021- 7:30 PM EST Madison Square Garden
The Milwaukee Bucks will most likely once again be without Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez. The Bucks will receive some reinforcements with Jrue Holiday returning to the lineup. Giannis Antetokounmpo has been his usual dominant MVP self, but let's look at some of the role players that have stepped up in the starter's absence.
Grayson Allen is a player who I thought would have trouble translating to the NBA level but he has proved me wrong. Grayson plays with toughness and tenacity. He has athleticism that I underrated that allows him to be a good defender in the NBA. Grayson has also become a scoring threat. He is currently third on the Milwaukee Bucks averaging 14.5 points per game. Allen's tough defense and clutch shot-making has been a big help to the Bucks bench this season.
Bobby Portis has become a Milwaukee folk hero with his inspired play last season. Portis is a scrappy player that always gives maximum effort. Portis has the defensive ability to confuse and frustrate opponents. He is a monster attacking the glass for rebounds. Portis is averaging 7.4 rebounds in just 22 minutes per game.
Pat Connaughton is another player that has increased his usage in the absence of the starters. Connaughton is currently averaging 10 points and adds 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game. Connaughton is a 3-point shooter with a good passing vision that can run the offense when Antetokounmpo is not on the floor. Connaughton has definitely blossomed in these increased minutes and will be a boon to the Bucks bench when they return to full health.
New York Knicks
The Knicks added Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier in the offseason to add offense and the new duo have done their job. The Knicks are now third in the league in points per game at 111.7. This is a stark contrast from last year when they were one of the lowest-scoring teams in the league.
The Knicks are still defined by the defense, a staple of teams coached by Tom Thibodeau. Now the Knicks can score and play at a much quicker pace than they did last season. Kemba Walker provides a veteran floor presence. Evan Fournier has been the sharpshooter the Knicks were lacking.
Julius Randle is the unquestioned leader of this team. Randle leads the team in points, rebounds, and assists averaging 22.5, 11, and 5.5 respectively. Randle's all-around game has helped propel the Knicks and he is a matchup nightmare for all but the most ardent defenders at power forward.
RJ Barrett has made a leap in his development. In his third season, RJ Barrett has really developed into a consistent scoring threat and is now averaging 17.6 points per game. Barrett has developed a consistent 3-point shot. He can get to the rim against most defenders. Barrett's development has coincided with the Knicks' uptick in offensive output.
Jrue Holiday vs Derrick Rose/Kemba Walkerread on to take a look at the NBA odds. The Knicks veteran point guards are the key to jump start in this offense. If Jrue Holiday's elite defensive level can slow down the high-scoring guards, the Knicks' offense can get stagnant and too reliant on Julius Randle.
If Holiday is able to slow down the Knicks' guards, the Knicks will have problems keeping pace. If Rose and Walker are still able to score in spite of Holiday's stellar defense, the Knicks will be poised to take the victory.
What a great spot for the New York Knicks. First, they take on a depleted Philadelphia team now they get to catch the Milwaukee Bucks shorthanded as well. This is a Knicks team that rarely puts forward a subpar effort. We can always count on them to play with full effort.
The defending champions will have their hands full with the new-look Knicks. The NBA schedule can be brutal and unforgiving. This is on display tonight. Look for the Knicks to take advantage of this opportunity. Lay the points with the New York Knicks at one of BMR's best sportsbooks.
