Just one NBA playoff game Friday but it’s from arguably the most exciting first-round series: Memphis at Minnesota in Game 6 as the Wolves look to stay alive. Here is two-player prop NBA picks with odds from BetOnline, one of BMR’s top-rated sportsbooks

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

Friday, April 29, 2022 – 09:00 PM EDT at Target Center

Brandon Clarke

  • Over/Under 8.5 Rebounds

ESPN has the telecast of the lone NBA game of the night and it’s a darn shame that this probably will not do well ratings-wise opposite Rounds 2-3 of the 2022 NFL Draft from Las Vegas. A shame because this series has been incredible to watch with impossible comebacks, last-second wins, and Ja Morant throwing down maybe the best playoff dunk in league history in Game 5.

I will be backing the Timberwolves to win, although I hope that’s not me subconsciously just hoping for a Game 7 on Sunday back in Memphis. This could be one of the blossoming rivalries in the Western Conference.

There is one injury note: Memphis center Steven Adams is in the health and safety protocols and presumably out unless it was a false positive. If this were the regular season, that would be a massive setback for the Grizzlies because he was the starter and averaged 6.9 points on 54.7 percent shooting along with 10.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists during the year. Solid player.

However, Grizz coach Taylor Jenkins does not like his matchup in this series with the smallish Timberwolves so Adams after playing 24 minutes in Game 1 has basically fallen out of the rotation; he didn’t see the court at all in Game 5.

The Adams news is going to affect my play on Brandon Clarke, though. Xavier Tillman has been starting in Adams’ place, but Clarke has been playing the heavier minutes by far. What if Tillman gets into early foul trouble or is injured? Jenkins can’t turn to Adams for 5-10 minutes in Game 6, so Clarke might play 40 or more.

Memphis does not rally in Game 5 without Clarke. He finished with 15 rebounds, including an incredible seven on the offensive end alone in the fourth quarter. He had more overall offensive rebounds (nine) than the Timberwolves did as a team (six). Other than Ja Morant, no one else on the team had more than five boards in Game 5.

“He just knows where to go. He’s always in the right spot at the right time,” Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns said. “You go for a block, he’s magically around right at the exact spot where the ball’s coming. He has a knack for rebounding, we got to box him out better and do a better job keeping him on the ground.”

I think Clarke could top 8.5 rebounds by the third quarter. “His second jump is crazy,” Wolves guard Anthony Edwards added.

Anthony Edwards

  • Over/Under 23.5 Points

Speaking of Edwards, he was the hero and goat in the span of about 3 game seconds in Game 5. He hit a tying three-pointer with 3.7 seconds remaining. On the Grizzlies’ inbound pass on the ensuing possession, Edwards stupidly tried for a steal on a pass to Morant.

He didn’t come close and that left the lane open for Morant, who hit the winning left-handed layup with about a second left. "Dumb mistake," Edwards said. "I had already had my mind made up that I was going to try to steal it.”

The former No. 1 overall pick is incredibly talented but still has a lot to learn at age 20. My guess is that blunder fuels him big time in Game 6, and Edwards frankly has to score a lot of points because he really doesn’t do anything else. He had 22 points in Game 5 with just one rebound and zero assists, steals, or blocks.

Thus, there’s no point in doing a points + rebounds + assists prop on Edwards. He has 121 points through five playoff games to begin his NBA playoff career, the most points through five games to begin a playoff career in franchise history, surpassing Stephon Marbury’s 102. Do the math and Edwards is averaging 24.2 points in this series, which would get us over this prop.
