The red-hot Memphis Grizzlies host the much improved Minnesota Timberwolves. The Grizzlies’ current winning streak has seen them climb the Western Conference standings to find themselves in third just ahead of Utah.

Minnesota, for their part, has a real chance to make the playoffs this season. Let’s break this game down to see where we can cash with the current NBA odds.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Memphis Grizzlies

Grizzlies Currently One of NBA's Best Teams

The Grizzlies have won ten games in a row and find themselves a half-game ahead of the Utah Jazz in third place in the Western Conference standings. Quality of wins is one thing that is very important to me when capping any team in any sport.

That said, Memphis' current streak has to be considered very impressive. They beat the top two teams in the West (Golden State and Phoenix) and also beat two of the best teams out East in Brooklyn and Cleveland.

Tonight they come into this game versus Minnesota as -4.5 point favorites. I think that line is a bit short considering how well Memphis has played recently. During this winning streak, they're winning by an average of 12.3 points per game. Although the Wolves are playing well, Memphis seems like they're on an entirely different level right now.

Wolves Are a Much Better Team

Minnesota will be disappointed to have lost at the buzzers against the Pelicans but overall, they're playing really good basketball right now. They've won four out of their last five although the level of competition hasn't been the greatest. When it comes to the Wolves, a win is a win and they've managed to get enough of those to be in playoff contention right now.

They find themselves in 9th so they'd still have to qualify through the play-in tournament. That said, there's a long way to go in the season so things can still go either way.

When you look at the Wolves roster, the first thing that stands out is their offensive firepower. A closer look at the numbers will reveal that this team's success has been built on the strength of their defense. At the moment, they're 11th overall in defensive efficiency.

Their offense is actually in the bottom half (18th) of the league and if they can find a little more consistency on that side of the ball, they should be a playoff team this season.

First Half Line Has Value in This Spot

The Grizzlies have been one of the best first-half teams in the league this season. They are 6th overall on the season in terms of first-half net rating and I like them in this spot at -2.

One possession is the most I'll lay on a first-half spread, so I’m comfortable with Memphis at this number. The first half under 118 might be worth a look at well depending on where you shop.

Minnesota has been really good defensively in the first half of games this season. As for Memphis, their first-half defense has been really strong during this ten-game winning streak as well. My official NBA pick is on the Grizzlies for the first half.
