The Celtics are back at home for one game against a divisional rival before heading out West for a long road trip.
Can they win this game against a newly-healthy Philadelphia 76ers team? Let’s break down the NBA odds.
Philadelphia 76ers vs. Boston Celtics
Wednesday, December 01, 2021 – 07:30 PM EST at TD Garden
Can Boston Eat Their Home Cooking?
Boston opened the year a little slow for various reasons, especially at home but, lately, when they play at the Garden things have started to turn around.
They are 5-1 SU over their last six home games, with the only loss coming in blowout fashion against the Nets where Jaylen Brown was still on a minutes limit.
Brown has been making his way back from health and safety protocols and has played less than 30 minutes over the last four games he has played.
That could be lifted some more tonight against a divisional rival. Brown is still listed as questionable for tonight’s contest, but, he has also still been effective despite a minutes restriction since his return from the Covid-19 list.
If Brown is back to full strength tonight and with the Sixers still getting their stuff together with a healthy Joel Embiid, I see Boston winning this one.
If you exclude their loss to the Nets, the Celtics have played some of their best basketball of the season over their November home games.
Even including that loss, the Celtics still have a net rating of +6.3 points per 100 possessions in their last five home games and with the Sixers barely beating the Magic in their last game, it’s time to fade them here on Wednesday.
The Sharp Pick
The spread for this one scares me away just slightly because I could see this game easily falling within the one-to-two point margin, but, the moneyline is still sitting at -140 at some shops and it’s where I’m hanging my hat tonight.
Robert Williams will play tonight after falling ill for their last game, so along with Al Horford, the Celtics have a ton they can throw at Embiid and not have to worry too much about the Sixers’ big man going off.
I understand the Sixers are healthier lately, but the issues that create for Boston could be solvable at home.
If Brown is able to play 30-plus minutes tonight and the C’s can build on their recent home cooking, I like them to win this game for my NBA pick before they travel on the road for a tough West Coast swing.
