New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays
Wednesday, May 04, 2022 – 07:07 PM EDT at Rogers Centre
Who's on the Mound for the Blue Jays?
Yusei Kikuchi is on the mound for the Blue Jays. He’s 0-1 with a 5.52 ERA to start the season. The left-hander also has an xFIP of 6.39 with 18.1% strikeouts and 18.1% walks. Yes, this means that he’s walked and struck out the same amount of batters to start the season. The left-hander has allowed some power to lefties with an ISO of .250.
However, it’s the righties that are getting to Kikuchi. In 54 plate appearances, righties have a .426 wOBA and ISO of .293 against Kikuchi this season. The strikeouts lack against righties too and the walks continue to increase.
What’s the Projected Lineup for the Yankees vs. Jays?
In the projected lineup for the Yankees, New York has a .232 ISO and a wOBA of .342 against lefties this season. The Yankees are also hitting just 37.5% ground balls and strike out under 21% of the time.

On the other hand, Nestor Cortes will take the mound against the Blue Jays for the Yankees. Usually, the Blue Jays destroy lefties. But this year, that hasn’t been the case. Only George Springer, Bo Bichette, and Santiago Espinal are having success against lefties this season in the Blue Jays lineup.
Toronto is also hitting 52.5% ground balls against lefties with the projected lineup. Meanwhile, Cortes has a 1.31 ERA along with an xFIP of 2.84. He’s also struck out 35.9% of batters and has walked just 3.8% of batters.
What’s the Yankees vs. Jays' Betting Prediction?
With that said, for my MLB pick, I like the Yankees to take care of business and win their 12th game in a row. Cortes has been terrific this season and the Blue Jays, despite having a near-full lineup of righties, haven’t been all that great against lefties to start the year.
Cortes has been one of the best and most exciting lefties in the game dating back to last year. I will say, however, that Cortes doesn’t induce a whole lot of ground balls. The Blue Jays are capable of hitting line drives against Cortes and making him pay. However, the Yankees and their offense just match up much better against Kikuchi.

Let’s take the Yankees 'over' 2.5 in the first five innings on the team total. I wouldn’t mind the Yankees -.5 in the first five innings but that Blue Jays lineup scares me enough to want to stay away from them. I’d rather just root for the Yankees offense to have success over worrying about the Blue Jays and their offense.
