After a walk-off win for the Boston Red Sox last night, can the New York Yankees earn the series win with a Sunday Night game against the Red Sox?

Yankees vs. Red Sox: About Yesterday's Game
The Boston Red Sox finally defeated the New York Yankees 6-5 last night. It took extra innings, but the Red Sox got the win, without Rafael Devers in the lineup. Boston needed that win and now has a chance to split the series against the Yankees later tonight.
Despite the Red Sox being in second place in the AL East, the Yankees still have a 15-game lead on the Red Sox in the division. Boston is basically competing for a Wild Card spot at this point. But again, a series split, would be encouraging for the Red Sox.
Who Is Pitching for the Yankees Today?
Jameson Taillon will get the start for the Yankees tonight. He’s 9-2 with a 3.63 ERA, however, some would say he’s the weakest link in the Yankees’ rotation.
In the last 30 days, Taillon has had a 4.03 xFIP with 22.7% of strikeouts and 4.2% of walks. However, he has a BABIP of .362 while allowing 35.3% of line drives and inducing 31.8% of ground balls.
He’s been much worse against lefties as of late, but if Devers isn’t in the lineup, the Red Sox would be missing out on a huge opportunity there.
Who Is Pitching for the Red Sox Today?
Meanwhile, Nick Pivetta will get the call for the Red Sox. Pivetta has a 5.06 xFIP in the last 30 days but has earned 22.8% of strikeouts in that time frame.
Like Taillon, Piveta has struggled more against lefties recently.
New York Yankees
- The Yankees have been the much more consistent offense against righties in the last 30 days.
- New York has a .231 ISO and wOBA of .337 against righties in the last 30 days with 10.8% of walks induced by the projected lineup.
- The Yankees have also hit a very low amount of ground balls against righties.
- This is helpful to know, knowing Pivetta has struggled to earn a high amount of ground balls in the first place.
Boston Red Sox
- The Red Sox have a .142 ISO and wOBA of .321 against righties in the last 30 days. That’s including Devers in the lineup.
- Without Devers, these numbers tank much lower.
- Jarren Duran has been red hot against righties with a .245 ISO and wOBA of .435.
- Other than that, the Red Sox haven’t been consistent against righties.
Yankees vs. Red Sox: Game Prediction
The Red Sox are going to really want to gain momentum and earn a series split against the Yankees. Meanwhile, the Yankees want to flex their muscles and get the series win with three wins to one over the Red Sox.
Yankees Lineup Against Pivetta
Overall, the Yankees have been the more consistent lineup. The Yankees have plenty of left-handed power from guys like Matt Carpenter, Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Hicks, Marwin Gonzalez, and Joey Gallo. There’s a lot to like in this lineup from a power standpoint.
Pivetta has allowed a .192 ISO to lefties in his last 63 plate appearances against them and walks lefties at a much higher rate as well.
Red Sox' Lineup Against Taillon
On the other hand, Taillon has been absolutely awful against lefties, giving up a .505 wOBA and ISO of .404 in the last 50 plate appearances against lefties.
If Devers is in the lineup, the Red Sox will have a massive bat that can do damage. Without him, only Duran has inflated numbers against righties in the last 30 days. But maybe guys like Alex Verdugo, Frency Cordero, and Jackie Bradley Jr. can step up and have big days offensively too against Taillon.
Those bats are all lefties expected to be in the order. Verdugo is coming off a walk-off hit, so he’ll be locked in.
MLB Betting Pick for Today
For my MLB picks of the day, I’m going to rock with the Over 9 in Sunday’s ESPN Game of the Week.
This rivalry series is going to end with plenty of runs on the board. I’m not high on either one of tonight’s pitchers.
Pivetta will likely allow plenty of power to lefties in the Yankees’ order. And while the Red Sox haven’t been consistent at the plate, they’ll still have a solid amount of lefties that can do damage against Taillon, who also hasn’t been all that great recently.
