The American League Central is one of the more exciting divisions in the MLB. It’s a wide-open division where anyone can win.

Last year, the Minnesota Twins finished in last place in the division, but still ended up with 73 wins and under 90 losses. However, it was the Chicago White Sox that ended up winning last season, with a 93-69 record.

White Sox

The White Sox were the only team to have a positive run differential in the division, so it made plenty of sense that Chicago won the division rather easily.

This year, the White Sox will be the favorites again. Chicago continues to develop young talent and has so many power bats that can explode and break out this season. In the lineup, the White Sox have Tim Anderson leading off along with five other players that are more than capable of hitting 20 or more home runs this season. That includes Yoán Moncada, José Abreu, Yasmani Grandal, Luis Robert and Eloy Jimenez. Even Gavin Sheets has potential for 20 home runs.

The reality is, in the MLB, if you can hit home runs, you’re going to win games. The Starting rotation also looks solid and Chicago might even add a starter or two before the season begins.

Indians

The Cleveland Indians came in second last season, winning 80 games. After allowing Francisco Lindor to leave in a trade with the Mets, most thought the Indians were in rebuild mode. But after winning 80 games with a shorthanded starting rotation for most of the year, Cleveland showed potential.

The Indians are now going to be called the Guardians and have rebranded. It would be extremely cool to see the Guardians’ rebranded team do some damage this year. The lineup still doesn’t look all that satisfying but the starting rotation has a lot of potential with Shane Bieber at the top of it.

Tigers

Next, the Detroit Tigers were supposed to be at the bottom of the AL Central last year but managed to win 77 games.

The Tigers added Javier Baez for the middle of their lineup and could have Spencer Torkelson make his MLB debut this season. Detroit also added Tucker Barnhart for the catcher position and seems to be making positive moves for this organization. The rotation also got better with the addition of Eduardo Rodriguez manning a very young Tigers rotation that is full of potential.

If you’re excited about Torkleson’s debut, the Royals will likely debut Bobby Witt Jr., who is another stud prospect that could be a franchise player. The Royals didn’t add anything or anyone before the lockout, but the Royals do have some young guys that can help.

Twins

Lastly, the Minnesota Twins had a brutal season last year, finishing in last place. That was not expected and could be changed around quickly. The Twins haven’t added any additions but will get back a whole lot of guys who missed time last season due to injury, like Byron Buxton. In the rotation, Minnesota added Dylan Bundy, but that won’t be enough to win games in the AL Central.

Therefore, I still like the Chicago White Sox to win the division and think that the Detroit Tigers could be a sneaky option in this division if you’re looking for a long shot.
