An opportunity to sweep the Chicago White Sox and gain ground in the AL East race awaits the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday’s baseball betting schedule.

White Sox vs. Blue Jays Series Recap
Home runs and relief pitching have been the keys to the Toronto Blue Jays taking the first two games of their series with the Chicago White Sox, and in the process stretching their win streak to seven in a row, the longest such streak currently in the majors.
Toronto now turns to its young ace, Alek Manoah (5-1, 1.77), in hopes of securing a sweep of Chicago in a Thursday matinee. The White Sox counter with veteran Johnny Cueto (0-1, 2.41) as they look to avoid the Blue Jays’ brooms, and the MLB odds board shows Toronto as decided -185 chalk.
Alejandro Kirk’s two home runs provided the offense in Tuesday’s 6-5 win for Toronto, and the Blue Jays slugged three more in Wednesday’s 7-3 triumph. Toronto relievers have combined to work nine innings while allowing two runs in the first two contests, both of which went past the totals.
- The over has cashed in five of Chicago’s last seven, leaving the White Sox 20-26-2 O/U/P on the season.
- The over has cashed in seven of Toronto’s last eight, leaving the Blue Jays 21-27-1 O/U/P on the season.
Johnny Cueto: Pitching Analysis
While he may carry the nickname Johnny Beisbol, Cueto could easily be known as the Energizer Bunny based on the fact he keeps going and going and going. Staying healthy for a full season has been an issue for the 15-year veteran, but Cueto has managed to stay on the bump for at least six innings in all three of his starts for the White Sox.
Perhaps that 6-inning mark should be the cutoff point for Chicago manager Tony LaRussa. The White Sox sent Cueto back to the mound for a seventh-inning last Saturday at home against the Cubs, and it only made things worse as the White Sox dropped a 5-1 decision to their crosstown rivals as -141 chalk at some of the BMR's best online books and betting sites.
You have to go back to the 2015 playoffs to find Cueto’s last appearance against the Blue Jays, which start coming while he was in a Kansas City uniform during the ALCS, and an outing the Dominican would rather forget. Cueto pitched into the third inning of Game 3 and was hammered for six runs in an 11-8 loss at Rogers Centre.
Alek Manoah: Pitching Analysis
Since making his MLB debut a little more than a year ago, it would be tough to find a better hurler in the game than Manoah. He pitched the Blue Jays into the winner’s circle in his final eight starts of 2021 and has taken them there in six of his nine starts of 2022 to put about two units of profit into the pockets of anyone following Manoah.
The three losses Toronto has suffered from Manoah on the hill were certainly not his fault. He allowed just four earned runs in the three assignments (17 IP) and was supported by just four runs from his offense.
Manoah faced the White Sox twice last season and ended up with a no-decision in both outings. Toronto won both contests, however, with Manoah working a combined 11 innings while allowing just two earned runs and nine hits.
Who Will Be the Umpire?
Ryan Blakney will call balls and strikes for the series finale on Thursday. The 37-year-old veteran of eight major league seasons is a level 4-4-1 O/U/P on the baseball odds this season.
The fact Blakney does not lean one direction or the other is no surprise to anyone tracking him during the three previous years (2019-21) when he was 36-36-3 O/U/P in the totals column.
Will the Roger Centre's Roof Be Closed or Open?
The rain that was forecast for Wednesday came and went early to allow the roof to be open for Game 2 of the set, and it should be open again for the Thursday matinee when the weatherman is calling for cloudy skies, temps in the upper-60s, and an 8-10 mph northerly breeze (in from center).
White Sox vs. Blue Jays Betting Pick
Having never considered myself smarter than any win streak, my free baseball pick for the series finale is to back Toronto with a run-line play as Manoah leads the Blue Jays to a 6-2 win to finish off the broom job against the White Sox.
