This will be the first-ever World Series game in the fairly new Truist Park in Atlanta and the Braves’ first home Fall Classic game since losing Game 2 in 1999 to the New York Yankees, who would sweep the series. On the updated MLB odds for the series at BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review), the Astros have retaken the favored role at -135 after winning Game 2 with Atlanta at +115. The favored series result is Houston in six at +325.

Houston Astros vs. Atlanta Braves

Friday, October 29, 2021 – 08:09 p.m. EDT at Truist Park

It’s the 61st time that the World Series has been tied 1-1, and in the previous 60 the winner of Game 2 – which was Houston – won the Fall Classic in 31 (51.7 percent). In those 60 occasions tied 1-1, the winner of Game 3 has won the series 39 times (65 percent) and in 13 of the past 17 instances

Here are a few props picks from BetOnline and Bovada (visit our Bovada Review).

Game 3 Winner and Series Outcome Special

Bovada has an interesting prop on a team winning Game 3 and then winning or losing the series. The favorite is Houston winning Game 3 and the series at +145, followed by Atlanta winning Game 3 and the series at +190, the Braves winning Game 3 and losing the series at +400, and then Houston winning Game 3 and losing the series at +600.

I believe the loss of Braves ace Charlie Morton in Game 1 to a broken leg is really going to change things because he probably would have pitched twice more if this went seven. All the Astros have to do is take one game in Atlanta to ensure a return to Houston. I just happen to think the Braves win Friday.

MLB Pick: Braves Win Game 3 and Lose the Series (+400) at Bovada

Team to score first wins game

Atlanta scored first in Game 1, in the top of the first, and never looked back, winning 6-2. Houston scored first in Game 2, in the bottom of the first, and won 7-2. Teams scoring first in the 2021 playoffs are now a crazy 26-7.

MLB pick: Yes (-196) at Bovada

Over/Under total pitcher strikeouts

One important thing to note about this game being in the National League park: Pitchers are going to be pulled perhaps much earlier for a pinch-hitter. In addition, both bullpens are well-rested because of having Thursday off.

Rookie Luis Garcia is on the mound for Houston and it’s hard to know what to expect from the right-hander. In the regular season, the 24-year-old was 11-8 with a 3.30 ERA and had 176 strikeouts in 167.2 innings. Garcia has had two terrible outings in these playoffs, lasting a total of 3.2 innings in those and allowing 10 runs, and one very good one in Game 6 of the ALCS, shutting out the Dodgers over 5.2 innings with seven strikeouts.

Atlanta’s Ian Anderson was 9-5 with a 3.58 ERA this season and 124 strikeouts in 128.1 innings. In these playoffs, he has 12 strikeouts in 12 innings. The Braves haven’t let him go more than five innings yet in three starts.

MLB pick: Ian Anderson over 3.5 strikeouts (-114) at BetOnline

MLB pick: Luis Garcia under 4.5 strikeouts (-114) at BetOnline

Head to Head Matchups

  • Freddie Freeman vs. Yordan Alvarez total bases
  • Joc Pederson vs. Kyle Tucker total bases

We don’t have much to go on regarding batters vs. starting pitchers because the Braves’ Ian Anderson hasn’t faced Houston and the Astros’ Luis Garcia hasn’t faced Atlanta

Houston’s Yordan Alvarez usually is the DH but will have to play left field in the NL park and that can affect a players’ hitting. Alvarez is 2-for-5 in this series with a triple. Atlanta’s Freddie Freeman is 2-for-7 with two singles. Freeman hit much better at home this season and also much better vs. right-handers like Garcia.

I’m not even 100 percent sure Braves outfielder Joc Pederson will play with no DH. He’s 1-for-8, a single, with three strikeouts. Houston’s Tucker is an early World Series MVP candidate as he’s 3-for-7 with a double. This is easy money for our last MLB pick.

MLB Pick: Freddie Freeman over Alvarez (-111) at BetOnline

MLB Pick: Kyle Tucker over Joc Pederson (-154) at BetOnline
