Mike Trout broke out of his hitting slump on Monday. The Los Angeles Angels look to end their losing streak on Tuesday’s baseball betting calendar against the Boston Red Sox.

Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels

Tuesday, June 07, 2022 – 09:38 PM EDT at Angel Stadium

These are indeed challenging times for the Los Angeles Angels. The pressure is on manager Joe Maddon to get the team with the fourth-highest payroll in the American League turned around as they look for answers in the continuation of their series with the Boston Red Sox.

Actually, the pressure is on Maddon to simply name a starting pitcher for Tuesday night’s contest in Anaheim.

The delay in that announcement kept the contest off overnight boards on MLB odds, with the best guess being rookie Reid Detmers (2-2, 4.20) going for the Angels opposite Boston’s Garrett Whitlock (2-1, 3.02).

Red Sox vs. Angels Game 1 Recap

An even dozen is where the Angels’ losing streak sits following Monday’s 1-0 loss to the Red Sox.

Boston’s Michael Wacha, who is enjoying his best season in years, went the distance for the rare complete-game shutout and made the single tally by the Red Sox stand up to cash as small underdogs at BetOnline.

In dropping their last 12 games, the Angels have fallen two games under .500 and gone from dueling Houston in the AL West race to 8.5 games behind the Astros.

Boston picked up its fifth consecutive win to climb above .500 for the first time since April 17.

Rivalry Trends

This is the second meeting between the clubs this season, and the season series is now tied 2-2.

Monday’s blank job was the third shutout in the four games between Boston and Los Angeles after two of the three contests at Fenway Park a little more than a month ago ended with a goose egg for one of the sides.

  • The Angels won two of three in Boston during the May series, with totals running 1-1-1 O/U/P.
  • The clubs split their clashes in 2021 by each winning their series at home.
  • Two of the three games in Anaheim last year stayed ‘under’ the baseball odds, and totals are 2-6-2 O/U/P in the last 10 meetings.

Garrett Whitlock Performance Stats

Efficiently brilliant is the best way to describe Whitlock’s performance on the mound at Fenway Park last Wednesday.

The former UAB standout delivered six innings on only 70 pitches with one unearned run crossing the plate, and the Red Sox delivered a 7-1 victory over the Reds as hefty -205 chalk at GTbets.

Whitlock neither walked nor struck out a Cincinnati batter in what was the final game of a disappointing homestand for Boston and marked the fourth time the Red Sox cashed moneyline tickets in his last five assignments.

Whitlock vs. Detmers Analysis

Against Detmers and the Angels at Fenway Park a little more than a month ago, Whitlock allowed two runs and whiffed nine without a walk over five innings.

He has only one other appearance against the Angels, a scoreless inning of relief last July in Anaheim where Whitlock struck out all three batters he faced.

Angels Analysis

Detmers opposed Whitlock in the May 4 game in Boston, and also took a no-decision with 4.2 innings of work and three runs allowed.

The 22-year-old lefty then went out and tossed a no-hitter in his next start against Tampa Bay, but has since fallen on tough times with the Angels losing his three subsequent starts and Detmers pitching to a 5.14 ERA (14 IP).

While the Angels only got three hits in Monday’s loss, at least one of them was by Mike Trout.

Mired in an 0-for-26 slump, Trout singled off Wacha in the first inning for his first hit since May 28 and is now batting .276 for the season.

Who Will Be the Umpire?

Carlos will be the umpire calling balls and strikes in the second game of the series.

Now in his eighth season working games at the major league level, Torres brings a very slight ‘over’ lean into the matchup with a 5-4 O/U record on the season, and his plate assignments ran 16-13 O/U a year ago.

Weather Forecast for Today

There’s nothing in the forecast to concern baseball bettors. The weatherman is calling for clear skies, temps in the low-70s at game time with a light SSW breeze (out to center) for those folks at The Big A.

MLB Pick for Today

It’s tough to come up with an MLB pick when one team’s pitcher remains a mystery. The best advice is never going against a streak, and that has me leaning toward Boston and ‘under’ for this one.
