The Angels will attempt to fend off getting swept for a fourth straight series as they try to salvage the final game of four at home against the Red Sox on Thursday.

The Red Sox, meanwhile, are rolling. The three straight wins in Anaheim give Boston a seven-game winning streak that has put the Sox a season-best three games over .500.

Below, we’ll break down the MLB odds and share two winning picks! Let’s begin.

Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels

Thursday, June 09, 2022 – 09:38 PM EDT at Angel Stadium

Red Sox vs. Angels Recap

Los Angeles Angels

  • The Angels have set a team record by losing their last 14 games, including sweeps at the hands of the Blue Jays, Yankees, and Phillies.
  • This week, they’ve lost three straight one-run games—including two by 1-0 scores—to visiting Boston.
  • The slump has cost manager Joe Maddon his job. He was let go after the Angels lost their first game of the Boston series. Interim skipper Phil Nevin has lost the last two.
  • Los Angeles has been caught by Texas for second place in the AL West.

Boston Red Sox

  • The Red Sox are rolling. The three straight wins in Anaheim give Boston a seven-game winning streak that has put the Sox a season-best three games over .500.
  • The win streak has given the Boston Red Sox a share of a playoff berth, if the season ended today, although it is still in fourth place in the American League East.

Red Sox Highlights and Injuries Updates

It was just a month ago that Boston appeared to be headed for a disappointing season that could result in the Red Sox being sellers at the trade deadline.

May has seen Boston turn things around. After beating Anaheim on Wednesday, the Sox now have won 16 of their last 21.

Boston got mixed news on the injury front. Leadoff hitter Enrique “Kike” Hernandez has been battling a hip flexor strain and finally went to the injured list prior to Wednesday’s game.

On the positive side, shortstop Xander Bogaerts returned to the lineup on Wednesday after feeling tightness in his left shoulder on Tuesday and leaving the game.

Nick Pivetta Analysis

Pivetta was in danger of losing his spot in the rotation early, going 0-4 while giving up 18 runs in 20.2 innings. Since then, he’s gone 4-0 in five starts and given up just six runs in 34 innings for a 1.59 ERA, a fraction of the 7.84 ERA he had early on.

Boston will try to sweep the Halos with Nick Pivetta taking the mound on Thursday. Pivetta has mirrored the team’s turnaround.

After struggling in his first few starts, he says he found and corrected a mechanical flaw in his delivery, and since then, he’s been lights out.

Los Angeles Angels Performance Takeaways

They’ve changed managers. They’ve shuffled the lineup. They’ve even given every player walk-up songs by Nickelback. But the Angels keep losing.

Mike Trout gave the team a bit of good news, finally breaking his career-worst 0-for-26 slump with a hit in the first game of the Boston series. But, showing just how things have turned for Los Angeles, Trout missed Wednesday’s game after straining his groin. The injury isn’t expected to keep him out long.

Angels Injuries Updates

The long list of injured Angels includes Taylor Ward, sent to the injured list earlier this week, Anthony Rendon, already on the list, David Fletcher, and Luis Rengifo, the latter going on the paternity list prior to Wednesday’s game.

With several of their biggest bats ailing or missing, the Angels have struggled to score. Wednesday’s 1-0 loss was the third time Los Angeles has been shut out in six games.

They’ve also lost seven one-run games over the 14-game slump and have scored two runs or fewer eight times during the losing streak.

The Angels will try to reverse their fortunes with Shohei Ohtani taking the mound. He’s 3-4 with a 3.99 ERA and shut the Red Sox down with seven scoreless innings the first time he faced them this year.

Red Sox vs. Angels Betting Pick

It has to end sometime, but you’re not going to earn right now betting on the Angels to win your MLB picks. Pivetta has been one of the best pitchers in baseball over the last month.

Look for him to outduel Ohtani in yet another low-scoring game in the series.
