Mets vs. Braves: What You Should Know

No team has had worse injury luck this week than the New York Mets, who have dropped their first two games in Atlanta by a combined score of 18-1, and their lead in the NL East is down to 3.5 games.

On Monday, Mets starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco lasted just two innings before leaving with side tightness, and he will miss about a month with a low-grade oblique strain – those can linger a lot more than a month. Right-hander Trevor Williams likely will take Carrasco’s turn Saturday at Philadelphia.

On Tuesday, starting pitcher Taijuan Walker left after 2 innings with back spasms; he was injured as he ran to cover first base on a ground out to close the inning and came up wincing. Walker was to have an MRI on Wednesday. Walker and Carrasco have combined for 23 wins.

Mets' Prop Bet: Max Scherzer

  • Over/Under 18.5 Outs Recorded
  • Over/Under 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed

Because the Mets have used their bullpen so much the past two days, they absolutely need three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (8-2, 1.93 ERA) to go deep tonight, and I think he will.

The right-hander allowed one earned run over 7 innings with 6 strikeouts and one walk last time out against the Phillies. It was his seventh outing this season going at least 7 innings with no more than one run allowed, tied for the fifth-most such appearances in the majors.

Since returning from the injured list, Scherzer has a 1.36 ERA in 53 innings. He has faced the Braves twice this season and went exactly 7 innings in both, allowing just one run and 7 hits.

It's games like this why the Mets made Scherzer the highest-paid pitcher by average annual value this past offseason: to stop losing streaks and rescue the bullpen

Braves' Prop Bet: Dansby Swanson

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

For our MLB picks, let’s fade Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson tonight on total bases. In 44 career at-bats off Scherzer, he’s hitting just .159 with only four extra-base hits and a whopping 18 strikeouts.

MLB Prop Pick: Swanson Under 1.5 Total Bases (-180) at BetOnline

Mets' Prop Bet: Francisco Lindor

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

It’s trade acquisition Jake Odorizzi (4-4, 3.80 ERA) for Atlanta. Mets All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor is a former American League player and has seen Odorizzi the most of any New York player, going 11-for-28 with 4 doubles, 2 homers, and 5 RBIs.

Colorado Rockies vs. St. Louis Cardinals

Wednesday, August 17, 2022 - 07:45 PM EDT at Busch Stadium

Cardinals' Prop Bet: Jordan Montgomery

  • Over/Under 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed
  • To Record A Win?

The Cardinals’ trade for lefty Jordan Montgomery at the deadline looks more and more brilliant each day for St. Louis and worse and worse for New York, which is completely falling apart and has major rotation issues now. That was really a puzzling deal for the Bombers.

Montgomery hasn’t allowed a run and just 6 hits over 11 innings in two starts with St. Louis. One added benefit: Because Montgomery had spent his career in the American League, only a couple of Rockies have seen him.

As usual, Colorado is among the worst offensive teams in road games in the majors.

Cardinals' Prop Bet: Paul Goldschmidt

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

Our hitting prop from this game is a no-brainer on NL MVP betting favorite Paul Goldschmidt

The Rox start German Marquez (6-9, 5.08 ERA) on the mound, and Goldschmidt is 15-for-37 (.405) with 3 doubles and 4 homers career off him

Marquez faced the Cards last Thursday in Denver and pitched well, but Goldy had 2 hits off him. That’s all we need here for our betting picks or simply a double.

MLB Prop Pick: Goldschmidt Over 1.5 Total Bases (+110) at BetOnline
