New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox

Tuesday, September 13, 2022 – 07:10 PM EDT at Fenway Park

Who Pitches for the Yankees Today?

Gerrit Cole starts for New York tonight.

Cole is worth fading tonight because he is pitching in Boston where he repeatedly struggles. Last year, Cole yielded a 6.19 ERA in three starts in Boston. This season, he yields a 7.50 ERA in one start in Fenway Park.

These more recent numbers are consistent with his negative history throughout his career in this ballpark. Here, he suffers a 5.45 ERA in seven career starts.

Who Pitches for the Red Sox Today?

Nick Pivetta starts for Boston tonight.

Pertinently to my best bet for this game, Pivetta is a strong "Over" pitcher. The "Over" is hitting in 64% of his starts overall.

Pivetta Against Yankees' Batters

Primarily, Pivetta throws a fastball, curveball, and slider. These three pitches make up, together, over 97% of his arsenal.

Yankees' batters look reliable tonight because they rank fourth in slugging against Pivetta's favorite pitches from righties.

Far from struggling as they were in prior weeks, Yankees' batters look dominant right now. Their currently superb form is evident in the fact that they scored 10 runs in each of their past two games.

Kansas City Royals vs. Minnesota Twins

Tuesday, September 13, 2022 - 07:40 PM EDT at Target Field

Who Pitches for the Royals Today?

Kris Bubic starts for the Royals today.

Bubic is coming off a tough-luck start against Cleveland in which he yielded a 4.26 ERA and a .316 BABIP (batting average of balls in play) despite doing a strong job of limiting hard contact.

His 2.80 FIP in that start reflects how well he pitched and indicates the existence of something positive for him to build off of.

Slumping Twins

Whereas Bubic is trending upward individually, the Twins are struggling mightily.

They've lost 9 of their last 11 games. Most recently, they got swept by Cleveland at home.

Bubic Against Twins' Batters

Since Minnesota's slump began on August 31, they slug .050 against Bubic's pitches (his fastball, changeup, and curveball) from lefties.

While Bubic gave up a lot of runs on August 15 in Minnesota, he yielded a 2.24 FIP, which reflects his ability to succeed in Minnesota.

Who Pitches for the Twins Today?

Joe Ryan starts for the Twins today.

Kansas City has gotten to see Ryan three times. As measured by Ryan's FIP, the Royals have improved in every start against him.

Last time, just under a month ago, Ryan yielded a 4.43 FIP against them.

MLB Pick: Royals RL +1.5 (-140) at BetOnline

Colorado Rockies vs. Chicago White Sox

Tuesday, September 13, 2022 - 08:10 PM EDT at Guaranteed Rate Field

Who Pitches for the Rockies Today?

Chad Kuhl starts for the Rockies tonight.

While Kuhl has had some notable success in his home ballpark, he is struggling outside of it.

Partly because Kuhl is worse in road games, Colorado is yielding -3.8 units in games in which Kuhl starts away from home.

Kuhl's Form

In addition to struggling generally in road games, Kuhl has been awful in his most recent starts.

In his last nine starts, if he allowed 3 earned runs, then he failed to last more than 5 innings. Four times, he allowed 5 earned runs or more.

Moreover, he allowed 2 home runs or more in four of his past five starts.

White Sox' Batters Outlook

Whereas Kuhl is struggling, Chicago is playing strongly. Since August 31, the White Sox are 8-3. During this positive stretch of play, they rank ninth against Kuhl's favorite pitches (his slider and sinker) from righties.

Among others, look out for AJ Pollock, who is heating up. Pollock is slugging .585 so far in September.

Who Pitches for the White Sox Today?

Chicago starts Michael Kopech today.

Kopech favors a fastball-slider combo. He merits optimism tonight because the Rockies slug .317 against these pitches from righties away from home.

MLB Pick: White Sox RL -1.5 (+110) at BetOnline
