After a 10-run win over the San Francisco Giants on Monday, can the New York Mets add another win on Tuesday for their 30th of the season?  Let’s see what the MLB odds tell us at the top-rated sportsbooks

New York Mets vs. San Francisco Giants

Tuesday, May 24, 2022 – 09:45 PM EDT at Oracle Park

The New York Mets will look to be the first team to get to 30 wins tonight against the San Francisco Giants. The Mets defeated the Giants, 13-3 in yesterday’s series opener on the road, and will look to continue on with the momentum tonight.

The Giants are falling closer to .500 with a 22-19 record on the year. The Giants aren’t exactly what they were last year but will still be competitive throughout the season.

What can we expect in the second game of the series? Here are our picks and predictions for the Giants and Mets for Tuesday.

The Pitching Match-Up

The Mets will send out Chris Bassitt, who has a 2.77 ERA to start the season. In the last 30 days, Bassitt has struggled a bit, with a 4.91 xFIP. However, he’s earning 22.3% of strikeouts in the last 30 days with just 6.9% of walks.

That’s good enough. Against righties, however, Bassitt has allowed a .360 wOBA and ISO of .208 in the last 30 days. But there are no right-handed pitchers in the Giants lineup with consistent success against righties this season.

On the other hand, Logan Webb will man the mound for the Giants in the second game. He has a 5-1 record along with a 3.54 ERA on the season. His xFIP is also low at 4.11 in the last 30 days but he’s only earning 17.8% of strikeouts.

Still, Webb has induced 59.4% of ground balls while limiting line drives to 17.7% in the last 30 days. That’s what’s keeping him from folding in games despite allowing a .330 BABIP.

Who Has the More Favorable Lineup?

The Mets do. They have a .110 ISO and a wOBA of .314 in the last 30 days against righties. However, the Mets hit three home runs yesterday and scored 13 runs against mostly righties.

New York has struck out under 20% of the time against righties in the last 30 days using their projected lineup and they’re also hitting above 22% of line drives in that same time frame.

The Giants, on the other hand, have more power against righties, earning a .203 ISO and wOBA of .359 as a projected lineup. However, only Wilmer Flores is the only right-handed hitter with success against righties. San Francisco still only strikes out 15.8% of the time while earning 10.6% of walks. Clearly, the Giants hit righties better than lefties.

Game Prediction

The Giants have a ton of potential against righties this season. They’re hitting a .203 ISO and wOBA of .359 in the last 30 days against righties. However, Bassitt has only struggled against righties in the last 30 days and has limited lefties to a .185 wOBA and ISO of .023.

The Giants should likely have six lefties in the lineup and just three righties. Wilmer Flores, Darin Ruf, and Thairo Estrada would be the three righties but only Wilmer Flores has an average ISO number of .161.

That’s why I’m not too concerned with how Bassitt matches up with the Giants. Meanwhile, Webb won’t earn a high amount of strikeouts but will likely put together another solid performance of ground balls. However, we said that about Alex Cobb yesterday and the Mets destroyed him.

The Pick

Webb has been awful against lefties this year, allowing a wOBA of .408 with an ISO of .256. He’s going to have to take on six lefties in the Mets order and while there isn’t one particular lefty destroying righties in the Mets lineup this season, Webb could have some difficulty navigating through the order.

Bassitt has been bad against righties but will only need to face three righties in the Giants lineup. Therefore, I see it as an advantage for the Mets as they look for their 30th win of the season.

With that said, let’s take the Mets on the moneyline at +105 in this matchup. The Mets continue to dominate series after series and will need to add another win against the Giants to get another series victory.
