The Seattle Mariners have been red hot to start the season. Seattle is 11-6 and continue to look like a legitimate contender in the MLB this season. However, starting pitching depth is something this team might lack.

Seattle Mariners vs. Tampa Bay Rays

Wednesday, April 27, 2022 – 06:40 PM EDT Tropicana Field

Marco Gonzales

Marco Gonzales will take the hill for the Mariners and he has allowed six runs in two of three games that he’s pitched in. The left-hander still has 13 strikeouts to three walks but also has allowed four home runs in three games.

In 2022, Gonzales has allowed a .403 wOBA and ISO of .356 against righties in 49 plate appearances. The Rays love to platoon and should have at least seven righties in the lineup to go up against Gonzales.

That Rays lineup includes Randy Arozarena and Wander Franco at the top of the order along with Yandy Diaz who has also become a major threat against lefties. As a lineup, the Rays are earning a .176 ISO but also a .373 wOBA with just 15.2% strikeouts.

Drew Rasmussen

On the other hand, Drew Rasmussen will get the start for the Rays. It hasn’t been the best start to the season for Rasmussen, but he’s only allowed three or fewer runs in every outing. If he’s going to struggle, the Rays will just get their bullpen working and would be just fine.

The Mariners haven’t been very good against righties this season. Ty France has been red hot along with Eugenio Suarez but ultimately, the rest of the line doesn’t have much power. Seattle has a .129 ISO and wOBA of .296 against righties this season.

In the dead-ball era, I guess these numbers aren’t so bad but overall, these numbers are below average. The entire bottom half of the order could be considered rally killers with low ISO numbers and very low wOBA numbers along with extremely high strikeout numbers.

With that said, I like the Rays in this matchup. You can look at the first-five moneyline or even full game moneyline with the Rays at home. But I’m going to stick with the over team total bet.

The Rays have a wOBA of .373 against lefties this season with the projected lineup and if they can get a couple of guys on and have one clutch hit, the Rays are hitting over on their first five team total.

This team has so many contributors including Manuel Margot who has a .534 wOBA against lefties so far this season. Taylor Walls has been extremely unlucky to start the year with balls in play. Look for him to break out against lefties soon knowing he’s only striking out 7.7% of the time against lefties with 23.1% walks along with 33.3% line drives against lefties.

This Rays' lineup will be dangerous against lefties. All they need is two against Gonzales tonight. Don't forget to place your bets at one of BMR's top-rated sportsbooks.
