The Los Angeles Dodgers entered their three-game series in Colorado on a roll, while the Rockies were struggling as they returned home from a rough road trip. Then, both teams did a 180 on Monday night.

The Rockies got a complete-game shutout from Chad Kuhl and shut down the Dodgers, putting a clamp on the L.A. offense in a 4-0 opening game victory.

Now Colorado looks for its first series win in its last three as the Dodgers and Rockies meet for the middle game of the series on Tuesday, while the first-place Dodgers are in danger of dropping their first series in the last three.

Which way to lean at the top-rated sportsbooks? Let’s break down the MLB odds for today.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Colorado Rockies

Tuesday, June 28, 2022 – 08:40 PM EDT at Coors Field

Los Angeles Dodgers Analysis

The Dodgers were shut out for the first time in 12 games, but of greater immediate concern for L.A. is the state of its pitching staff.

Injured List

While Los Angeles won two of three in Atlanta, it came at a great cost to the bullpen. The Dodgers lost starter Andrew Heaney, who returned to the injured list over the weekend with shoulder inflammation. He only recently was activated after missing much of the season with the problem already.

The team also lost set-up man Daniel Hudson for the season with a torn ACL.

Pitching Staff Situation

Heaney’s replacement in the rotation was knocked out early, and the Braves got deep into the Dodgers bullpen. Brusdar Graterol pitched in all three Atlanta games and Alex Vesia two. Reyes Moronta also got extended work on Sunday.

All three were shut down for Monday’s loss, as the Dodgers relied on Phil Bickford and David Price, and a road loss wiped out the need for someone to pitch the ninth inning.

“We used a lot of arms,” manager Dave Roberts said of the weekend.

Is the Dodgers Offense Playing Well?

The Dodgers offense had been averaging 5 runs a game in the 11 days between the two shutout losses, but the team’s four best hitters—Trea Turner (.408 with 1.087 OPS over the last two weeks), Freddie Freeman (.395, 1.221), Trayce Thompson (.313, 0.916) and Will Smith (.306, 0.939) were a combined 1-for-14 on Monday.

The team is still without Mookie Betts, who is recovering from a rib injury.

Who is Pitching for the Dodgers Today?

The Dodgers will turn to Clayton Kershaw on Tuesday. He is 5-1, with a 2.00 ERA, and struck out seven in six one-run innings the last time out.

Colorado Rockies Analysis

As impressive as Kuhl’s shutout was, the Rockies were probably happier about the team’s batters going 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

That’s because Colorado went a dismal .182 (10-for-55) in those situations over the six-game road trip, including 5-for-48, .104, over the last five games.

Yesterday's Game Highlights

“Of course, there’s conversations, every day. That’s what coaches do — we coach. We talk daily about the approach and the plan and the opposing pitcher. Right now it’s difficult, but the worm will turn,” manager Bud Black said before Monday’s game.

The offense got a boost on Monday when Kris Bryant, sidelined for all but 17 of the first 73 games, was activated from the injured list. He responded with his first hit since May 21.

It hadn’t been that long without a hit for Ryan McMahon, but he singled in the fourth inning to snap an 0-for-11 skid.

Who is Pitching for the Rockies Today?

The Rockies will look to keep things going with Kyle Freeland on the mound on Tuesday. He is 3-5 with a 4.29 ERA, but he’s gone 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in June, going seven innings in three of his four starts this month.

Dodgers vs. Rockies: Betting Pick for Today

Even with the pitching woes and Monday’s punchless offense, the Dodgers still are a game out of the best record in the National League and lead the West, making them our MLB pick of the day.

Colorado is 10 games below .500, in last place, and 14 games back. Plus L.A. has Kershaw on the mound.

It’s expensive but worth the cost.
