The Los Angeles Dodgers have won six straight games against the Giants in the second half of the season. Can the Giants find a way to get at least one back tonight?
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants

What You Should Know
The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to win games against their division. The Dodgers defeated the Giants last night and have now won six straight against the Giants since the All-Star Break.
The Giants sold Darin Ruf to the Mets during the trade deadline but elected to keep Carlos Rodon and Joc Pederson at the deadline. It was an interesting decision, knowing the Giants are currently below .500.
At this point, San Francisco has no chance at reaching the Padres or Dodgers and didn’t make any moves to help them get better this year either.
Who Is Pitching for the Dodgers Today?
The Los Angeles Dodgers will send another left-handed pitcher on the mound against the Giants. The Giants have struggled against left-handed pitching throughout the second half of the season and it won’t get any easier with Julio Urias on the bump.
Urias has a 10-6 record with a 2.71 ERA on the season. In the last 30 days, however, Urias has a 4.38 xFIP. Still, Urias has struck out nearly 25% of batters in those 30 days while allowing only 3.7% of walks.
Who Is Pitching for the Giants Today?
On the other hand, Alex Cobb will get the start for the Giants. He’s 3-5 with a 4.06 ERA, but has actually been better in the last 30 days, as he’s holding a 3.17 xFIP in that time frame.
Cobb has earned 22.5% of strikeouts and has allowed just 6.2% of walks. He’s also induced over 62% of ground balls in the last 30 days. But I guess that just hasn’t been enough for Cobb and the Giants.
Los Angeles Dodgers
- The Dodgers are hitting a .177 ISO and wOBA of .338 against righties in the last 30 days.
- Los Angeles has also struck out just 16.8% with their projected lineup against righties while earning 10.7% of walks.
- Freddie Freeman has been the major piece of this offense against righties, hitting a .284 ISO and wOBA of .469.
- Will Smith and Gavin Lux have also been extremely consistent as of late against righties.
San Francisco Giants
- The Giants are still hitting a .210 ISO with a wOBA of .357 against lefties in the last 30 days.
- This projected lineup has struck out 25% of the time.
- The Giants’ lineup has hit 25.4% of line drives while limiting grounders to 35.6% against lefties.
- The major problem is that the Giants struggle to put the ball in play, but when they do, good things could eventually happen.
Dodgers vs. Giants: Game Prediction
Giants' Lineup Against Julio Urias
Urias has had a high xFIP at 4.38 in the last 30 days. The lefty has given up 42.7% of hard contact and usually allows a ton of fly balls. Currently, in the last 30 days, Urias has earned nearly 25% of strikeouts, has given up just 3.7% of walks, and also has allowed just 10.7% of line drives.
That’s going to help him against this Giants lineup. In the last 30 days, most teams aren’t getting much success against Urias, hitting a .222 BABIP against him.
The Giants also won’t have Darin Ruf in the lineup anymore. Austin Slater, Yermin Mercedes, Wilmer Flores, and David Villar all have high wOBA against lefties, but other than Slater, those guys mentioned have high strikeouts against lefties.
Dodgers' Lineup Against Alex Cobb
Cobb has a 3.17 xFIP in the last 30 days and has earned over 62% of ground balls. He’s been sensational in that regard, but has allowed a BABIP of .300. Even though he’s earning ground balls, it doesn’t exactly mean Cobb is going to get outs. Ground balls can become base hits and that’s what has happened to him lately.
The Dodgers will be able to put the ball in play against Cobb and have a bunch of really solid hitters in the middle of the order that can do damage while limiting strikeouts. As mentioned above, Freeman, Smith, and Lux have potential against Cobb.
However, Cobb has kept power down against both sides in the last 30 days, giving up an ISO of .056 to lefties and .083 to righties. Cobb has just been a bit unlucky.
MLB Betting Pick for Today
The Dodgers should be able to put the ball in play more. When you do that, you’re given a better opportunity to win games.
The bottom three players in the Dodgers’ lineup are lefties that usually strike out. But Cobb doesn’t strike out lefties at a high rate. Los Angeles should create more havoc.
For my MLB picks of the day. I’m going to take the Dodgers on the moneyline.
