Cleveland Guardians vs. Kansas City Royals

Wednesday, September 7, 2022, 8:10 PM EDT at Kauffman Stadium

Teams Analysis

Cleveland Guardians

The Cleveland Guardians will look to stay at the top of the AL Central with a game against the Kansas City Royals. Cody Morris will get the start for Cleveland. He’s a seventh-round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft and made his debut a week ago.

In that debut, he struck out 23.1% of batters but allowed 50% of line drives when balls were batted into play. The good news is that the Royals are hitting a .135 ISO with a wOBA of .287 against righties in the last 30 days.

The projected lineup has also hit just 17.5% of line drives against righties in that time frame while striking out 23.2% of the time. Morris should have a better outing in tonight’s game.

Kansas City Royals

On the other hand, Zack Greinke has a 4.46 xFIP in the last 30 days for the Royals. He’s struck out just 16.7% of batters and has allowed over 25% of line drives in that same time frame.

The Guardians haven’t been elite offensively but have struck out just 14.5% of the time as a lineup in the last 30 days against righties. The Guardians simply have more potential to put the ball in play and make good things happen.

Therefore, I’ll ride the Guardians in tonight’s game. For Cleveland, every game is a must-win, and they’ll treat this game like it is. Back the Guardians at -130.

Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees

Wednesday, September 7, 2022, 7:05 PM EDT at Yankee Stadium

Teams Analysis

New York Yankees

The Yankees are playing a doubleheader today. I’m looking at the second game here. Joe Ryan will take the hill for Minnesota.

He’s 10-7 with a 3.88 ERA on the season. In the last 30 days, his xFIP is high at 4.91, but he’s still striking out 26.4% of batters faced. Ryan has struggled more against righties but is ultimately giving up much power to both sides of the plate.

However, only Aaron Judge and Marwin Gonzalez have hit for power against righties over the last 30 days. The rest of the Yankees’ lineup has struggled in every aspect of hitting.

Minnesota Twins

On the other hand, Gerrit Cole will take the hill for the Yankees. Cole has a 4.01 xFIP with 26.8% of strikeouts in the last 30 days. On the season, he’s also 10-7 with a 3.28 ERA.

Despite some weird moments, he’s been very consistent this year. He’s taking on a Twins lineup that is hitting a .096 ISO and wOBA of .264. The same projected lineup has also struck out 22.6% of the time.

Cole should be dominant against a fatigued Minnesota offense. He’s limited extra-base hits through the last 30 days and should continue that trend into tonight’s game. Let’s ride the under.

Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros

Wednesday, September 7, 2022, 8:10 PM EDT at Minute Maid Park

Teams Analysis

Texas Rangers

The Houston Astros will get to hit against Cole Ragans, who is 0-2 with a 4.42 ERA on the season. Ragans currently has a 6.91 xFIP in the last 30 days. He’s also struck out 10% of batters in that same time frame.

The lefty has struggled a great deal against righties, and the Astros will have righties like Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, and Yuli Gurriel, who can do severe damage.

After all, Ragans has a .436 wOBA and ISO of .395 against his last 49 righties. That’s not going to cut it against the Astros.

Houston Astros

Meanwhile, Cristian Javier will take the hill for the Astros. He’s 8-9 with a 3.07 ERA on the season. His strikeouts are still very high, and he’s limiting line drives at a solid rate.

The Rangers are hitting a .132 ISO with 24.9% of strikeouts. Look for Javier to earn a bunch of strikeouts to help the Astros win this game big as our MLB pick.
