Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies

Friday, September 23, 2022 – 07:05 PM EDT at Citizens Bank Park

The Atlanta Braves have 93 wins on the year yet, are still 1.5 games out of the NL East. On the other hand, the Phillies are looking to stay in the NL Wild Card and reach the playoffs with 82 wins on the year.

Teams Analysis

Philadelphia Phillies

Philadelphia will pitch Aaron Nola, who is 9-12 with a 3.38 ERA on the season. Nola has a 2.98 xFIP over the last 30 days with 30% of strikeouts and 3.3% of walks.

In the last 30 days, he’s allowed a little bit of power to lefties, but overall, the lefties in the Braves’ lineup have a .165 ISO as a lineup in the last 30 days.

Instead, Atlanta strikes out 24.2% of the time against righties over the last 30 days. Nola should be able to earn a bunch of strikeouts in this game.

Atlanta Braves

Jake Odorizzi will get the call. He’s 5-5 with a 4.04 ERA on the season. Odorizzi has had a 5.20 xFIP over the last 30 days.

He will allow more fly balls than ground balls and will take on a Phillies lineup that has hit nearly 46% of ground balls against righties in the last 30 days.

Philadelphia will put the ball in play more, and if they can limit ground balls hit, the Phillies could hit more line drives to win in this game.

The Moneyline Pick

I’m taking the Phillies on the moneyline, at home, with Nola on the mound. Both lineups project the same, except Philadelphia should get on base more due to facing Odorizzi.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

Friday, September 23, 2022 - 10:10 PM EDT at Dodger Stadium

Teams Analysis

Los Angeles Dodgers

We will have a lefty vs. lefty matchup in this game on Apple TV+. Andrew Heaney will take the ball for the Dodgers with a 3-2 record to go along with a 2.66 ERA.

Heaney has been terrific, holding an xFIP of 3.18 in the last 30 days. He’s also struck out nearly 38% of batters while limiting line drives to 12.1%.

But he’s got a tough matchup against the Cardinals. The entire St. Louis lineup will be right-handed, and they’re hitting a .314 ISO and wOBA of .382 against lefties over the last 30 days.

St. Louis will have some sneaky offense tonight against Heaney.

St. Louis Cardinals

Jose Quintana will take the mound for the Cardinals. The lefty has struck out just 17.3% of batters over the last 30 days while giving up 25.6% of line drives.

Los Angeles is hitting 26.4% of line drives against lefties over the last 30 days and also has a .227 ISO and wOBA of .380 in the previous 30 days with their projected lineup.

The Over/Under Pick

Both lineups should be able to get to these two lefties. I’ll take the Over 8.5 for my MLB picks.

Detroit Tigers vs. Chicago White Sox

Friday, September 23, 2022 - 08:10 PM EDT at Guaranteed Rate Field

Teams Analysis

Detroit Tigers

The Chicago White Sox, who have crushed lefties over the last 30 days, will face Eduardo Rodriguez, who has a 5.05 xFIP in the previous 30 days.

Rodriguez has a low amount of grounders and a high amount of line drives allowed over that time frame, allowing over 41% of hard contact.

The White Sox have hit an ISO of .280 with a wOBA of .442 against lefties over the last 30 days. Only Jose Abreu and Luis Robert have struggled to hit lefties in that lineup, and we also know what those two are capable of.

Chicago White Sox

Lucas Giolito will take the hill for the White Sox. He has a 4.18 xFIP and will face a Tigers lineup with a .298 wOBA over the last 30 days.

Detroit only has one batter hitting a .350 wOBA or higher against righties over the previous 30 days.

The Run Line Pick

Let’s take the White Sox to cover the run line.
