Milwaukee Brewers vs. Cincinnati Reds

Thursday, September 22, 2022 – 06:40 PM EDT at Great American Ball Park

Team Analysis

Cincinnati Reds

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Mets last night and are now inching closer to an NL Wild Card spot. They’ll start a new series against the Cincinnati Reds, who won’t be in the playoffs this year.

It’ll be Hunter Greene on the mound for the Reds tonight. He returned to the diamond after being on the injured list last week. In his return, he faced the Cardinals and pitched six innings while allowing four hits and no runs.

It was a terrific outing for an outstanding rookie pitcher. But on the year, Greene has a 4-12 record with a 4.97 ERA. That’s far from good.

The Brewers are hitting a .193 ISO and wOBA of .329 against righties over the last 30 days. The entire top of the order has power potential going up against Greene. Milwaukee has even hit over 26% of line drives against righties in that same 30-day time frame.

Milwaukee Brewers

Brandon Woodruff will take the mound for the Brewers. He’s 11-4 on the year with a 3.26 ERA. In the last 30 days, he’s been about the same, holding a 3.22 xFIP with 30.8% of strikeouts.

He’s allowed some power to righties, but he won’t have to worry about the Reds when it comes to power. Cincinnati is hitting a .158 ISO with a wOBA of .284 against righties in the last 30 days with their projected order.

They’ve also struck out 22.5% of the time and have walked under 7% of the time.

I’ll take the Brewers as the MLB pick to get a much-needed win to start their series against the Reds.

Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies

Thursday, September 22, 2022 - 07:15 PM EDT at Citizens Bank Park

Team Analysis

Atlanta Braves

The Braves and Phillies are playing an essential series. The Braves are looking to earn the top spot in the NL East, while the Phillies are just trying to hang on in the NL Wild Card.

Max Fried will get the start for the Braves. He’s got a 3.76 xFIP with 22.8% of strikeouts over the last 30 days.

The lefty is also getting a high amount of grounders and giving up a low amount of line drives over the same 30 days.

Philadelphia Phillies

Ranger Suarez will take the hill for the Phillies. He, like Fried, is also a lefty. Suarez is 9-5 with a 3.53 ERA. He’d love to get that ERA below 3.5 tonight.

Suarez has induced nearly 59% of ground balls and has limited line drives to 13.8%. Atlanta has just two players hitting line drives over 20% in their lineup against lefties.

The Phillies are getting production out of Rhys Hoskins, J.T. Realmuto, and Jean Segura against lefties. But other than those three batters, the Phillies lack power.

Atlanta has more potential, but I wouldn’t expect too many runs between these two pitchers in this game.

Houston Astros vs. Baltimore Orioles

Thursday, September 22, 2022 - 07:05 PM EDT at Oriole Park

Team Analysis

Baltimore Orioles

Baltimore will pitch righty Kyle Bradish for tonight’s start. Things aren’t looking positive knowing Bradish will face Justin Verlander of the Astros tonight.

Bradish has a 5.08 xFIP over the last 30 days with low strikeouts and high walks.

He’s also taking on a Houston lineup with five batters hitting a .208 ISO and wOBA of .345 or higher in the last 30 days against righties.

Houston Astros

On the other hand, Justin Verlander is looking to earn an AL Cy Young award. He’s got a 1.73 xFIP since returning from the injured list and has struck out 52% of batters through his last 48 plate appearances.

The Orioles have a wOBA of .298 with 18% of line drives hit against righties. I’ll gladly take the Astros on the runline tonight.
