Philadelphia Phillies vs. Miami Marlins

Tuesday, September 13, 2022 – 06:40 PM EDT at loanDepot park

Teams Analysis

Miami Marlins

The Philadelphia Phillies will take the Miami Marlins on the road for the first game of the series. The Marlins will send out probable NL Cy Young winner, Sandy Alcantara.

Alcantara has a 12-7 record with a 2.43 ERA. But it’s not just his ERA that’s doing the talking. Alcantara has pitched the most innings in the majors and has multiple complete games on his resume.

In the last 30 days, Alcantara has had a 4.15 xFIP with 24.2% of strikeouts and 4.5% of walks. He’s also earned over 45% of ground balls while limiting line drives to 17.2%.

Alcantara has given up some power to both sides of the plate lately, but the Phillies have hit over 46% of ground balls with less than 20% of line drives against righties in that same time frame.

Philadelphia Phillies

Bailey Falter will take the mound for the Phillies. He’s a lefty with a 4.02 ERA and a 4-3 record. Falter has allowed a 4.53 xFIP and has given up over 24% of line drives with just 35.7% of ground balls induced.

The Marlins have some quality bats in the order to do damage. Brian Anderson and Nick Fortes have ISO’s above .270 over the last 30 days, while Jacob Stallings and Bryan De La Cruz are starting to heat up against lefties too.

The Moneyline Pick

Falter has been much worse against righties, allowing 27.8% of line drives with just 33.3% of ground balls. The Marlins figure to have an entire lineup filled with right-handed bats.

Let’s ride the Marlins on the moneyline for our MLB picks.

Kansas City Royals vs. Minnesota Twins

Tuesday, September 13, 2022 - 07:40 PM EDT at Target Field

Teams Analysis

Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals will send out Kris Bubic against the Twins tonight. Bubic has a 2-11 record with an ERA of 5.40. In the last 30 days, things haven’t gone any better. He’s holding a 5.75 xFIP with 12.7% of strikeouts and 9.3% of walks.

On top of that, Bubic has allowed 34.1% of line drives and just 33% of ground balls. He’s allowing more line drives than ground balls on the mound over the last 30 days.

Against lefties, Bubic has allowed a .523 wOBA and ISO of .235. To righties, he’s also allowing a .380 wOBA. The left-hander will maint face righties, but Minnesota’s righties are capable of having big days.

Carlos Correa is hitting a .320 wOBA and ISO of .412 against lefties. Meanwhile, Jose Miranda, Gio Urshela, and Gary Sanchez have all hit a high ISO against lefties over the last 30 days. The Twins have also kept their ground balls under 40% and are hitting nearly 22% of line drives.

Minnesota Twins

Joe Ryan will get the call for Minnesota. The righty has a 5.01 xFIP with 11.3% of walks. He’s also allowing as many line drives as he’s getting ground balls. Righties have hit a .358 wOBA and ISO of .250 against Ryan in his last 60 plate appearances.

He will mainly face lefties in this Royals’ lineup, but Salvador Perez is one righty that can do some damage.

The Over/Under Pick

I like the Twins to score more and win this game, but also think the Royals can contribute to help us get over the total.

Chicago Cubs vs. New York Mets

Tuesday, September 13, 2022 - 07:10 PM EDT at Citi Field

Teams Analysis

New York Mets

I tried going with the Mets yesterday, and it didn’t work out. But I’m going to try again with Jacob deGrom on the mound.

Jacob deGrom has a 5-1 record with a 1.65 ERA. He’s also got an xFIP of 2.63 in the last 30 days with 36.5% of strikeouts and 3.1% of walks.

The Cubs have struck out over 24% of the time against righties and will likely see that number increase against deGrom. Meanwhile, the Mets are hitting a .186 ISO and wOBA of .347 against righties over the same time frame.

Chicago Cubs

Adrian Sampson will take the hill for the Cubs, holding a 5.23 xFIP over the last month. He’s struck out just 13.5% of batters and has allowed over 25% of line drives.

Sampson also isn’t producing many grounders and has struggled poorly against righties in the last 30 days. Righties like Pete Alonso and Mark Canha have a massive advantage in tonight’s game.

The Run Line Pick

The Mets don’t need many runs but if those two come through, New York will cover.
