Boston Red Sox vs. Minnesota Twins

Wednesday, August 31, 2022 – 07:40 PM EDT at Target Field

Teams Analysis

Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins will send out Joe Ryan for tonight’s game against the Red Sox. Ryan has a 4.62 xFIP in the last 30 days but has also struck out 28.7% of batters faced in that time frame.

Ryan will rarely get ground balls but he’s done well limiting wOBA on both sides of the plate while also keeping ISO numbers down, for the most part.

He’ll take on a Red Sox lineup that has a .186 ISO and wOBA of .322 in the last 30 days. That same lineup has also struck out against righties 25% of the time in that same time frame. If Ryan can rack up the strikeouts, the Red Sox are going to have trouble finding answers.

Boston Red Sox

Michael Wacha will take the hill for the Red Sox. He’s been just as good, if not better, than Ryan. The veteran righty is also not getting a ton of grounders. He’s also struggling against lefties a little bit, allowing a .182 ISO.

The Twins don’t have much power against righties but as a lineup, the Twins have still hit 25.2% of line drives when balls are batted into play.

Minnesota will have a balanced lineup that will have five lefties in the lineup. Five batters in the lineup have hit fewer than 37% of ground balls against righties.

The Moneyline Pick

Look for the Twins to hit many line drives and fly balls against Wacha. That should be enough to get the win with Ryan on the mound.

New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Angels

Wednesday, August 31, 2022 - 09:38 PM EDT at Angel Stadium

The Yankees ended up going on a rampage, scoring 7 runs. The offense has rarely done that this season and I’d expect things to go back to that tonight.

Teams Analysis

Los Angeles Angels

Pablo Sandoval will take the hill for the Angels tonight. The lefty has a 4.30 xFIP in the last 30 days with 23.2% of strikeouts. Sandoval has also induced 50.8% of grounders in the last month while limiting line drives to 20%.

He’s been solid. Meanwhile, the Yankees have hit lefties well in the last 30 days, hitting a .195 ISO along with a wOBA of .395.

But as I always say, good pitching always beats good hitting. In the last 30 days, against lefties, Sandoval has allowed a .135 wOBA with an ISO of .000. Righties have a .298 wOBA with an ISO of .130 in the last 30 days.

New York Yankees

We’ve got Gerrit Cole making another start. He has a 3.77 xFIP in the last 30 days with 30.2% of strikeouts. His analytics looks so much better than his actual stats. That has me believing he’ll have a great finish to the regular season for the Yankees.

The Angels are hitting a .177 ISO with a wOBA of .317 in the last 30 days. Los Angeles has also struck out 29% of the time against righties.

The Over/Under Pick

For the Angels, Aaron Judge is the real threat. Everyone else isn’t. And for the Yankees, look for Cole to earn plenty of strikeouts to keep this game under the total.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

Wednesday, August 31, 2022 - 09:40 PM EDT at Chase Field

Teams Analysis

Arizona Diamondbacks

The Phillies will take on Tommy Henry of the Diamondbacks in tonight’s game. Henry is a lefty with a 6.07 xFIP in the last 30 days. He’s struggled more against righties and isn’t earning a strikeout rate while giving up 10.3% of walks.

Philadelphia is currently hitting a .226 ISO with a wOBA of .379 against lefties in the last 30 days. That’s without Harper performing.

However, the righties in the lineup are hitting a .286 ISO with a wOBA of .431. Those righties include Rhys Hoskins, Alec Bohm, and J.T. Realmuto, who have all been red hot against lefties lately.

Philadelphia Phillies

Bailey Falter will get the start for Philadelphia. He’s a lefty with a 5.01 xFIP in the last 30 days. Yes, he hasn’t been good, but Arizona is hitting a .055 ISO and wOBA of .277 against lefties in the last 30 days to begin with.

Arizona has been absolutely dreadful against lefties this season.

The Run Line Pick

This matchup screams Philadelphia. For your MLB picks, take them on the run line.
