Detroit Tigers vs. Texas Rangers
Saturday, August 27, 2022 – 07:05 PM EDT at Globe Life Field
I know, this isn’t the most appealing game on the slate. But I see value here. The Tigers have won just 48 games on the season, but I think win number 49 could be coming up.
Eduardo Rodriguez will take the mound for the Tigers. He had been away from the team due to personal reasons for most of the season but returned last week to start pitching for the team.
Rodriguez is usually a reliable left-handed pitcher with everything behind him, I think he’ll sustain that title.
He struck out 22.7% of batters in his return and only allowed 21.4% of hard contact in that one.
He’ll take on a Rangers lineup that has a .088 ISO and wOBA of .284 against lefties in the last 30 days.
Meanwhile, Dallas Keuchel will get the start for the Rangers. Keuchel has an 8.53 ERA on the season and hasn’t pitched in the last month.
Yet, Keuchel and the Rangers are favorites in this game.
Sure, the Tigers’ offense has been dreadful. But no offense has struggled to find success against Keuchel this season.
His xFIP is above 5 on the season and he’s struck out a low amount of batters.
The Moneyline Pick
For my first MLB pick, I’ll take my chances with the Tigers at +100. They’ll hit Keuchel.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Miami Marlins
Saturday, August 27, 2022 - 06:10 PM ET at loanDepot park
The Dodgers escaped the Marlins yesterday and now have 87 wins on the season. They’re 50 games over .500 and just can’t be stopped. The starting pitching has been fantastic and it just got better last week with the addition of Dustin May.
May struck out 50% of batters faced in his first game back and had a 1.61 xFIP. He earned 71.4% of ground balls and didn’t allow a single line drive in his first appearance on the mound.
May is now taking on a Marlins lineup again that just designated Jesus Aguilar for assignment.
Things look terrible in Miami as they’re hitting a .152 ISO and wOBA of .294 in the last 30 days. On top of that, the Marlins’ projected lineup has struck out 26.2% of the time.
On the other hand, the most consistent pitcher in baseball, Sandy Alcantara will pitch for the Marlins. He’s struggled a bit as of late but has still been able to earn plenty of ground balls while minimizing fly balls.
The Over/Under Pick
Of course, the Dodgers have crushed anything and everything recently, but a bad game for Alcantara is allowing four or five runs in seven innings.
Even if that happens, the Marlins' offense wouldn’t be able to do enough to get this game over.
I’ll take the under in this one.
MLB Pick: Under 7 (-125) at BetOnline
New York Yankees vs. Oakland Athletics
Saturday, August 27, 2022 - 09:07 PM EDT at Oakland Coliseum
New York Yankees
When Aaron Judge is on, the Yankees are on. Judge carried the Yankees to a 3-2 victory last night with a three-run homer.
He’s now got 49 home runs on the season and will be looking for number 50 tonight.
Domingo German will take the hill for the Yankees. He’s been able to keep his ERA below 4. So that’s good, for what it’s worth.
Adam Oller will take the hill for the Athletics with his 6.38 xFIP in the last 30 days. The righty has struck out just 12.4% of batters while walking 9.9% of batters in the last 30 days.
The Yankees’ offense isn’t producing against righties other than Judge, but Judge has a .333 ISO and wOBA of .439 against righties in the last month.
Oller has been awful against righties, giving up a .368 wOBA and ISO of .242 in his last 68 plate appearances against them. If Judge has a good game, the Yankees will have a good game.
The Run Line Pick
It won’t be too challenging going up against this Oakland lineup. Take the Yankees on the runline.
