It’s a getaway day Wednesday for some MLB teams, so be aware that a star player or two could sit out. A few teams have a rare Wednesday off as well.

Left-hander Robbie Ray had the best season of his MLB career in 2021 with the Toronto Blue Jays winning the American League Cy Young Award, and it came in a contract season. Funny how guys have their best seasons ahead of free agency and then regress after getting the big money.
Seattle signed Ray to a five-year, $115 million contract in free agency and while Ray hasn’t been terrible, he has not been the same guy in 2022 with a 4-4 record and 4.77 ERA in nine starts. However, while Rays has allowed 11 runs over 17.2 innings in his past three starts, he also has totaled 27 strikeouts.
Ray didn’t have more than 5 strikeouts in any of his first four starts but has had 8 or more in four of his past five.

Athletics Prop Bet: Elvis Andrus
- Over/Under 0.5 Hits
Even though Oakland has scored 6 and 7 runs in the first two games of this series, the A’s aren’t a good offensive team and for a point of comparison struck out 11 times in Tuesday’s 7-5 win. Oakland ranks fifth in the majors with 390 batter strikeouts.
Too bad we aren’t offered an over/under strikeout hitting prop for A’s shortstop Elvis Andrus.
He has been good in this series going 3-for-7 with a homer and 3 runs scored but is 2-for-17 career off Ray and hitting .227 on the season. That it’s a day game only helps the starting pitcher with shadows, etc.

Baltimore Orioles vs. New York Yankees

Normally, I would hammer the Yankees here because Orioles right-hander Tyler Wells is 0-3 with a 7.62 ERA on the road this season. He’s also not a huge strikeout guy with 23 in 32.2 innings. However, New York’s lineup figures to be very, very watered-down today.
Third baseman Josh Donaldson is on the COVID list. Infielder and former AL batting champion DJ LeMahieu was scratched from Tuesday’s game with a left wrist issue. He got a cortisone shot that will keep him out for a couple more days.
Slugger Giancarlo Stanton is almost surely sitting tonight – some top-rated sportsbooks have props on him, but I wouldn’t bother – as he left Tuesday's game against the Orioles after experiencing tightness in his right calf. Stanton was having an MRI today.

That’s a lot of thunder out of the Yankees lineup, and Wells does have a 2.00 ERA against New York in 9.2 innings this year.
He struck out four bombers the last time he faced them and against this lineup should be able to hit that mark again.

Boston Red Sox vs. Chicago White Sox

Red Sox Prop Bet: JD Martinez
- At Least 2 Hits + Runs + RBIs
After being swept at home earlier this season by the White Sox, the Red Sox got major payback in the series opener Tuesday in Chicago with a 16-3 blowout to extend Boston’s winning streak to six in a row.
Designated hitter JD Martinez had missed Sunday’s game with a bad back but returned with a bang, going 4-for-5 with 3 runs scored and an RBI. In May, he is destroying the ball with a .425 average, 4 homers, 13 RBIs, and 16 runs scored. Martinez now has 2 four-hit efforts in his last four, going 11-for-17 with 3 doubles, 8 runs, and an RBI in those games.
White Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito is a tough pitcher, but Martinez is 5-for-15 career off him with a homer. Note that at least 3 hits + runs + RBIs is priced at -102, but I’ll take the surer thing with 2.
