It was a profitable Tuesday around the majors with our MLB picks and we expect nothing less on Wednesday with another full slate.
Here are today’s player props with MLB odds from BetOnline, one of BMR’s top-rated sportsbooks.
Texas Rangers vs. Kansas City Royals
Wednesday, June 29, 2022 – 02:10 PM EDT at Kauffman Stadium
- Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases
The Rangers have battered Royals pitching so far in this series with 18 runs scored as they go for a rare road sweep. Former Cy Young winner Zack Greinke (1-4, 4.68 ERA) is on the mound for Kansas City, and the 38-year-old is a long way from his Cy Young days. He has given up at least five earned runs in three of his past five starts.
- At Least 2 Hits + Runs + RBIs
Two Texas batters figure to have big days vs. Greinke as Corey Seager is a .421 hitter against him in 25 plate appearances (8-for-19) with three home runs and two doubles and Kole Calhoun is a .545 hitter vs. Greinke in 23 plate appearances (12-for-22) with two homers and a double.
- Over/Under 0.5 Home Runs
On the flip side, let’s try a home run prop on Royals rookie Vinnie Pasquantino, one of the top power prospects in all of baseball – he’s ranked as Kansas City’s No. 3 overall prospect and No. 98 in the majors.
He had 18 homers at Triple-A Omaha this season, the third-most in Triple-A and by far the most in the Royals organization. Pasquantino was actually called up Monday and made his big-league debut Tuesday, going 0-for-4.
Now that he has a game under his belt, the butterflies should be gone and he right-handers like Texas’ Dane Dunning a lot better than lefties. Dunning has a 6.03 road ERA.
MLB Pick: Calhoun with at least 2 hits + runs + RBIs (-113) with BetOnline
MLB Pick: Pasquantino over 0.5 homers (+600) with BetOnline
Miami Marlins vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Wednesday, June 29, 2022 – 07:45 PM EDT at Busch Stadium
- Over/Under 5.5 Hits Allowed
The Cardinals go for the series sweep and might catch another break-in that excellent young Marlins leadoff hitter/infielder Jazz Chisholm could sit again. He missed Monday’s game with back troubles and did start Tuesday but was pulled early, so that makes me doubt he can go here.
Chisholm was to undergo an MRI on Wednesday morning to uncover the severity. Manager Don Mattingly called the development “discouraging” seeing as Chisholm had to pass pregame tests in order to return.
Thus, we won’t bother with any props on him today even though the books are listing him. Chisholm paces the club in homers (14) and RBIs (45) and the Marlins average 4.7 runs per game with him and 3.2 without.
The Marlins are still favored because their ace and NL Cy Young betting favorite Sandy Alcantara (7-3, 1.95 ERA) is on the mound – he’s +250 at BMR’s top-rated books to win the award.
Alcantara leads the majors with 106 1/3 innings pitched and has gone at least seven innings in nine straight starts with a .169 batting average allowed over that span.
For some reason, the books have yet to post an over-under of total Alcantara outs recorded but if/when they do, go over that because no way it will be set as high as 21, which is seven innings. Guess we will have to go with hits allowed.
- Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases
The Cards’ Paul Goldschmidt is the +100 NL MVP favorite and every time that I’ve addressed him in this space, it’s been in an optimistic fashion.
However, we are going pessimistic here as Goldy is just a 2-for-12 career with four strikeouts off Alcantara.
MLB Pick: Alcantara under 5.5 hits allowed (-118) with BetOnline
MLB Pick: Goldschmidt under 1.5 total bases (-186) with BetOnline
