Best MLB Player Props to Consider for June 22

Off a huge night at the plate, reigning AL MVP Shohei Ohtani of the Angels returns to the mound Wednesday night vs. Kansas City. Here are today’s player props with MLB odds from BetOnline, one of BMR’s top-rated sportsbooks

New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays

Wednesday, June 22, 2022 – 07:10 PM EDT at Tropicana Field

Jordan Montgomery

  • Over/Under 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed
  • To Record A Win?

Series finale between these heated rivals. The Rays are in really bad shape injury-wise right now. While they also have issues in their rotation and bullpen, we will focus on the lineup because of two Jordan Montgomery props today.

Here are the regulars currently on the injured list:

  • Catcher Mike Zunino (2021 All-Star)
  • second baseman Brandon Lowe
  • shortstop Wander Franco (one of the brightest young stars in the game the)
  • Manuel Margot (leads the team in batting average)
  • Kevin Kiermaier (former Gold Glove winner)

Margot and Kiermaier were injured Monday and put on the IL Tuesday.

I personally faded the Rays big time on Tuesday without all those guys and against Nestor Cortes, but Tampa Bay won in a big upset 5-4 because of an incredibly unlikely three-homer game from Isaac Paredes.

Montgomery Dominates the Lineup

It was the seventh three-homer game in franchise history and certainly the most shocking.  Expect the lefty Montgomery to dominate that watered-down lineup tonight

He has a 2.72 ERA and 0.95 WHIP on the season (somehow, he has missed the Rays) and over his past five starts, Montgomery is holding opposing hitters to a .181 average.

Aaron Judge

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

Another reason the Yankees lost Tuesday? MLB home run leader and AL MVP favorite Aaron Judge were surprisingly given a game off, although he did pinch-hit with two outs in the ninth and a chance to tie it with a homer but flew out.

Judge Needs Rest

Sometimes a day off is just what a guy needs at this point in the summer. Judge doesn’t have an official at-bat (one walk) against Rays' starter Shane Baz.

As good as the Yankees are, it was obvious Tuesday that the lineup is just not the same without Judge. Frankly, he’s due a home run having not hit one since June 15.

Cleveland Guardians vs. Minnesota Twins

Wednesday, June 22, 2022 – 07:40 PM ET at Target Field

Jose Ramirez

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

The red-hot Guardians have caught the Twins for first place in the AL Central after rallying for a 6-5 win in 11 innings on Tuesday in the series opener as the Guards improved to 16-4 since May 30. Including tonight, these teams will face off seven more times by the end of June.

Good pitching matchup Wednesday between:

  • Cleveland’s Triston McKenzie (2.96 ERA)
  • Minnesota’s Sonny Gray (2.09 ERA)

Thus, I’m going to have to be pessimistic on two sure-fire AL All-Stars in Cleveland’s Jose Ramirez and Minnesota’s Luis Arraez.

Ramirez (.303, 16 HR, 62 RBI) had missed a few games but was back in the lineup Tuesday and was 1-for-5. However, he’s just 6-for-27 in his career against Gray.

Luis Arraez

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

Arraez might be the most improved player in the majors this year as he leads MLB with a .362 average and had a double and homer on Tuesday. However, he’s a 0-for-9 career off McKenzie

MLB Pick: Ramirez under 1.5 total bases (-155) with BetOnline

Kansas City Royals vs. Los Angeles Angels

Wednesday, June 22, 2022 – 09:49 PM EDT at Angel Stadium

Shohei Ohtani

  • Over/Under 6.5 Pitching Strikeouts

While I’m not going to touch on what Angels’ dual-threat star Shohei Ohtani does at the plate tonight – I generally don’t bet him hitting-wise when pitching because pitching is quite tiring – we have to address what the reigning AL MVP did on Tuesday night when he homered twice and drove in a career-high eight runs … and the Angels still lost.

Ohtani became just the eighth player in Angels history to have eight RBIs in a game and the first player born in Japan to have at least eight in an MLB game.

The Angels franchise record is 10 by Garret Anderson against the Yankees on Aug. 21, 2007.  As a pitcher, the right-hander is 5-4 with a 3.28 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 60.1 innings.

Ohtani Performance

He hasn’t topped six strikeouts in any of his past three – only five times all season -- and the Royals strike out the third-fewest of any team in the majors.

I truly think Ohtani might be a bit gassed after his Tuesday at the plate and plus obviously hitting tonight. That’s a lot to ask.

MLB Pick: Ohtani under 6.5 strikeouts (-145) with BetOnline
