Miami Marlins vs. New York Mets

Tuesday, September 27, 2022 – 07:10 PM EDT at Citi Field

We’ve done well all season backing pitchers to shine against the offensively challenged Marlins, so let’s go right back to that formula tonight in our MLB picks.

Miami is playing out the string and announced over the weekend that Manager Don Mattingly wouldn’t return next year. No big surprise as the team has disappointed and his contract is up.

The Marlins have a lot of good young pitching, but they need major help in the lineup.

Carlos Carrasco

  • To Have 5+ Strikeouts and Mets To Win

The Mets lead the Atlanta Braves by a game for the NL East lead and the No. 2 seed in the Senior Circuit, which would mean avoiding the Los Angeles Dodgers until the NLCS.

I do expect New York to win tonight behind right-hander Carlos Carrasco (15-6, 3.79 ERA). The 35-year-old is 9-2 with a 3.21 ERA at home and has a 2.10 ERA in 25.2 innings this year vs. the Marlins.

MLB Prop Pick: Carrasco to Have 5+ Strikeouts and Mets to Win (-157) at BetOnline

Pete Alonso

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

We will go with two Mets All-Stars hitting-wise tonight against Miami’s Pablo Lopez, who has an 11.34 ERA this year vs. the Mets in 16.2 innings.

Pete Alonso doesn’t have great career splits off Lopez at 4-for-18 with a double, but Alonso over the past seven days is batting .333 with four homers and 13 RBIs.

MLB Prop Pick: Alonso Over 1.5 Total Bases (+130) at BetOnline

Jeff McNeil

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

Jeff McNeil, meanwhile, is 9-for-16 career off Lopez with three doubles and a homer.

Oakland Athletics vs. Los Angeles Angels

Tuesday, September 27, 2022 - 09:38 PM EDT at Angel Stadium

We have done well all season betting on pitchers against the punchless Oakland A’s, so let’s go right back to that formula tonight.

While it has been another massively disappointing season for the Angels, they may have found a future ace (next to Shohei Ohtani if he stays) in 25-year-old Patrick Sandoval.

Patrick Sandoval

  • Over/Under 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed

He’s only 6-9 because of poor run support as he has a 3.01 ERA. The lefty has held left-handed batters to a .159 (18-for-113) average this season.

Sandoval hasn’t allowed more than 2 earned runs in an outing since July 23 in Atlanta. In six career games vs. Oakland, he is 2-3 with a 1.56 ERA and this season is 2-0 with a 1.32 ERA in two starts vs. the Athletics.

MLB Prop Pick: Sandoval Under 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-105) at BetOnline

Chad Pinder

  • Over/Under 0.5 Hits

Chad Pinder hasn’t had much success against Sandoval, going 1-for-9 with three strikeouts.

MLB Prop Pick: Pinder Under 0.5 Hits (+130) at BetOnline

Shohei Ohtani

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

It’s right-hander James Kaprielian for Oakland, and he has had Ohtani’s number as the dual-threat star is just 1-for-12 off him with five strikeouts

MLB Prop Pick: Ohtani Under 1.5 Total Bases (-120) at BetOnline

Colorado Rockies vs. San Francisco Giants

Tuesday, September 27, 2022 - 09:45 PM EDT at Oracle Park

Logan Webb

  • Over/Under 5.5 Strikeouts

These NL West rivals are playing out the season. It has been another terrific year for Giants right-hander Logan Webb, who is 14-9 with a 2.93 ERA

He just faced these Rockies in hitter-friendly Coors Field last Wednesday and shut them out on one hit over 5.1 innings.

Webb has a 2.50 ERA in 18 innings this year against Colorado, which is one of the worst offensive teams on the road this year.

MLB Prop Pick: Webb Under 5.5 Strikeouts (-159) at BetOnline

Logan Webb vs. German Marquez

While I do like Webb to give up fewer than two earned, the Giants are going to limit his innings in his final few starts because he’s already at a career-high 187.1. That’s why he only went 5.1 innings last time out and probably will be limited to around the same here.

“At this point, we’re managing 2022 and ‘23 and beyond,” Gabe Kapler said of his pitcher. Webb said he understands that he needs to look at the bigger picture and ensure his body holds up for years to come.

“I’ve got to think about future me,” Webb said. “We had a big goal this year. Unfortunately, we didn’t get that, but it’s a big goal for next year as well. … I am a lot of innings over my previous high. I would love to get to 200, but I want to throw 200 innings for the next 10 years.”

German Marquez

  • Marquez With More Strikeouts

Colorado starter German Marquez has been much better on the road this year at 6-6 with a 3.50 ERA. He has no such innings limitations.

MLB Prop Pick: Marquez With More Strikeouts (-132) at BetOnline
