Maybe the AL East race isn’t over after all!? The New York Yankees had a 15-game lead not all that long ago but after a terrible August it’s down to six – and they play at second-place Tampa Bay this weekend.

Here are today’s player props with MLB odds from BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review), one of BMR’s top-rated sportsbooks.

Texas Rangers vs. Boston Red Sox

Friday, September 2, 2022 – 07:10 PM EDT at Fenway Park

Rangers' Prop Bet: Dallas Keuchel

  • Over/Under 3.5 Earned Runs Allowed
  • Over/Under 5.5 Hits Allowed
  • To Record A Win

You might simply be a DFS player and not a bettor, so I’ll explain why “Dallas Keuchel Day” is a national holiday for handicappers. The former AL Cy Young winner is an absolute gas can at this point in his career and frankly, I don’t understand why the Texas Rangers are even starting him instead of getting a look at some young pitchers now that rosters have expanded.

Dallas Keuchel (2-8, 8.84 ERA, 2.05 WHIP) has already been cut by the White Sox and Diamondbacks this season. In his first start with Texas last Saturday against the Detroit Tigers, the majors’ worst offensive team, he was scorched for 7 runs and 11 hits over 5.1 innings. It was the third time in his past four starts that Keuchel has allowed at least 7 runs.

In fact, if you go back to his final two starts with the White Sox in late May, the lefty has allowed at least 6 runs in five of his past seven outings and 4 and 3 runs in the other two. Keuchel is allowing opponents to hit.349 against him this season: 87 hits in just 56 innings of work. The guy is not a major-league pitcher

His final start with Chicago was on May 26 vs. Boston and he was torched for 6 runs and 7 hits in 2 innings. My only worry about his hits allowed prop tonight is that he gets pulled that early again. The Rangers did use a lot of relievers Thursday in blowing an 8-3 lead and losing in Boston so they might let Keuchel just take a beating out there.

Red Sox' Prop Bet: Rafael Devers

  • At Least 2 Hits + Runs + RBIs

A few Red Sox have hammered Keuchel's career, especially All-Star third baseman Rafael Devers: He’s 6-for-7 career off him with 2 doubles.

Devers also broke out of a mini-slump in Thursday’s win by going 2-for-2 with 2 doubles, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. He was at the center of the big rally with an RBI double in the eighth inning and a clutch two-run double in the bottom of the ninth.

MLB Prop Pick: Devers With at Least 2 Hits + RBIs + Runs (-179) at BetOnline

Red Sox' Prop Bet: Xander Bogaerts

  • Over/Under 1.5 Hits

Xander Bogaerts has been on a tear over the past week, turning in seven multi-hit efforts in his past eight games. He’s 5-for-16 with a homer off Keuchel.

MLB Prop Pick: Bogaerts Over 1.5 Hits (+200) at BetOnline

Red Sox' Prop Bet: Tommy Pham

  • Over/Under 0.5 Runs Scored

Tommy Pham is 2-for-3 off Keuchel with a homer and double. Instead of a hit prop, we’ll go with a run prop on Pham because the leadoff hitter has scored in eight straight games, and I promise you that the Red Sox are going to score plenty tonight.

Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis Cardinals

Friday, September 2, 2022 – 08:15 PM EDT at Busch Stadium

Cardinals' Prop Bet: Jordan Montgomery

  • Over/Under 4.5 Strikeouts
  • Over/Under 1.5 Walks
  • To Record A Win

Maybe the worst trade this season was the Yankees sending pitcher Jordan Montgomery to St. Louis for outfielder Harrison Bader – Bader was on the injured list at the time and still hasn’t played for New York, which is now desperate for pitching.

Montgomery is 4-0 with a 1.76 ERA in five starts since joining the Cardinals, which includes tossing a one-hit complete-game shutout against the Cubs on Aug. 22.

Monty isn’t a huge strikeout guy, which is why this total is low, but he faces a Cubs lineup that is striking out 8.83 times per game, the sixth-highest mark in the league. Chicago's 23.8% strikeout against left-handers is the seventh-highest rate.

Montgomery does have terrific command with just 27 walks on the season. Dating to his Yankees' days, he has walked more than one batter just twice in 10 starts and has two with zero walks.

Cardinals' Prop Bet: Paul Goldschmidt

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

Paul Goldschmidt of the Cards is going to win NL MVP and might even win the Triple Crown.

We have made a lot of money off him this season, but we’ll fade tonight as he’s only 2-for-12 career with 3 strikeouts vs. Cubs starter Adrian Sampson.
