The final day of the 2022 MLB season is here already. Hard to believe. Be aware that many players are going to sit out as pretty much every game is meaningless.

Here are today’s player props with MLB odds from BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review), one of BMR’s top-rated sportsbooks.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Oakland Athletics

Wednesday, October 05, 2022 – 04:00 PM EDT at Oakland Coliseum

Shohei Ohtani

  • Over/Under 7.5 Strikeouts
  • Over/Under 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed
  • Over/Under 4.5 Hits Allowed

We won on an Angels pitcher in this matchup Tuesday, taking Michael Lorenzen under 1.5 earned runs at -110, and he had 6 shutout innings.

Could this be the final game in an Angels uniform for Shohei Ohtani? He will be a free agent after next season so it’s possible the team could trade him while his value is sky-high, but that became less likely recently when the team and Ohtani agreed on a $30 million deal for 2023 to avoid arbitration.

It’s the biggest deal an arbitration-eligible player has signed, beating the $27 million deal Mookie Betts agreed on for the Boston Red Sox in January 2020.

Ohtani on the mound is 15-3 with a 2.35 ERA and is averaging 11.9 strikeouts per nine innings, Cy Young-caliber numbers, although he won’t win it. The right-hander could finish as high as third in the voting.

Pitcher Rates

The only pitchers to post better rates in all three categories in a season are Hall of Famers Pedro Martinez (1999) and Randy Johnson (1997). Ohtani needs one inning pitched to qualify for the league leaders as both a hitter and a pitcher. No player in the World Series era has ever done that.

He faces an A’s team that is atrocious. They are the worst team in the AL and are hitting around .220 with an OBP just over .350 since Sept. 1. Ohtani is 2-1 against Oakland this year with a 0.92 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 19 innings.

I do think the Angels will limit his innings today. No reason to push it. Thus, some books have taken his pitching props down.

Seth Brown

  • Over/Under 0.5 Hits

Seth Brown has been one of Oakland’s best hitters at .232 with 25 homers and 73 RBIs, but he’s just 2-for-15 career off Ohtani with eight strikeouts. Frankly, you could fade about every A’s hitter today

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Boston Red Sox

Wednesday, October 05, 2022 - 04:10 PM EDT at Fenway Park

Rafael Devers

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

Could this be the final game in a Boston uniform for All-Star third baseman Rafael Devers? He’s eligible for free agency after next season and if the Sox think they can’t afford him, they likely will trade him with his value so high, just like Boston did with Mookie Betts a few years ago.

Devers is hitting .295 with 27 homers and 88 RBIs, and this month is batting .311 with an .876 OPS.

Tampa Bay has nothing to play for as it is locked into the No. 6 seed in the AL playoffs and will play the Wild-Card series in Cleveland. The Rays are expected to start lefty Josh Fleming (2-4, 6.23 ERA) because why use any pitchers that will be needed in the postseason?

Fleming was added to the team’s taxi squad Monday. Devers is averaging 2.05 total bases per game this year and is 5-for-9 with a double and homer career off Fleming.

Nick Pivetta

  • Over/Under 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed

The Sox will start right-hander Nick Pivetta (10-12, 4.56 ERA) on the mound. I normally don’t trust this guy and he’s 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA this month and is 0-3 with a 7.47 ERA this year vs. the Rays. Why do I lean under 2.5 earned runs? I expect Tampa Bay to rest nearly every regular ahead of the playoffs.

MLB Prop Pick: Pivetta Under 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-165) at BetOnline

Colorado Rockies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

Wednesday, October 05, 2022 - 04:20 PM EDT at Dodger Stadium

Freddie Freeman

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

This is the latest-start game of the day despite the early 4:20 p.m. ET start, MLB wanted to start every game around the same time in case there were playoff ramifications so teams couldn’t tank. Alas, there are no playoff ramifications today.

I don’t think the Dodgers will rest Freddie Freeman because they don’t open the Division Series until Oct. 11 against a Wild-Card team TBA.

Freeman has a few reasons to care: He’s second in the NL in batting at .322 behind the Mets’ Jeff McNeil (.326) and first in hits with 196, four ahead of teammate Trea Turner.

Freeman also is two RBIs short of 100. He is 2-for-5 career off Rox starter Austin Gomber (5-7, 5.62 ERA).

MLB Prop Pick: Freeman Over 1.5 Total Bases (+110) at BetOnline
