Best MLB Player Props for July 8

Why are there no day games on Friday? Major League Baseball needs to have at least one every Friday (every weekday for that matter) for betting reasons. Here are today’s player props with MLB odds from BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review), one of BMR’s top-rated sportsbooks

Rays vs. Reds: What You Should Know

Series opener between the teams who haven’t met since 2017 overall or in Cincinnati since 2014. First off, let me say I love the Rays to win here not just because their ace is on the mound but because they were off Thursday and the Reds had to play a doubleheader.

Rays Prop Bets: Shane McClanahan

  • Over/Under 7.5 Strikeouts
  • To Record A Win?

With all due respect to Tony Gonsolin or Justin Verlander or whomever you want to name, the most dominant pitcher in the majors currently is Rays right-hander Shane McClanahan (9-3, 1.74 ERA), the +250 favorite at BMR’s top-rated books to win the AL Cy Young. Barring a meltdown in this start and his next one, McClanahan absolutely should be the starting pitcher for the AL in the upcoming All-Star Game.

McClanahan has made 10 straight starts of at least six innings and seven strikeouts with no more than two earned runs allowed, the longest single-season streak in AL history and third-longest in the majors. He has recorded double-digit strikeouts in back-to-back outings for the first time in his career and has allowed eight earned runs total in his past 10 starts.

MLB Prop Pick: McClanahan Over 7.5 strikeouts (+104) with BetOnline

Rays Prop Bet: Francisco Mejia

  • To Hit a Home Run

The Reds’ Luis Castillo (3-4, 3.09 ERA) is pretty good himself – and a lock to be traded by Aug. 2 – but Rays catcher Francisco Meija is 3-for-6 career off him with two homers, so let’s give a HR prop a shot at a nice price.

Detroit Tigers vs. Chicago White Sox

Tigers vs. White Sox: What You Should Know

We previewed the opener of this AL Central matchup on Thursday and went 1-for-1 on our prop picks. Have to say I was stunned that struggling Tigers pitcher Beau Brieske tossed two-hit ball into the seventh inning after the White Sox were so good at the plate Wednesday with the return of Eloy Jimenez from injury.

Thus, we lost on Jose Abreu to get at least 2 hits + runs + RBIs as he was 1-for-4 with no runs or RBIs – Abreu did extend his hitting streak to 12 games with his single in the seventh. We won on White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease going under 8.5 strikeouts as he finished with eight. Here’s what I wrote: “I think Cease gets 7-8 strikeouts but it’s not exactly easy to get 9.”

White Sox Prop Bets: Lucas Giolito

  • Over/Under 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed
  • To Record A Win?

Meanwhile, supposed Chicago ace Giolito (5-4, 4.90 ERA) had been in a major funk, but it might have been because he was going through arbitration with the team – usually in the offseason but had to happen in-season this year because of the lockout – and that can really mess with guys’ heads.

Giolito seems to have figured things out as he has allowed just three earned and nine hits with 13 Ks over 12 innings in his past two. He has pitched four scoreless innings this year against the Tigers, one of the worst offensive teams in the majors. I think this is a White Sox rout.

MLB Prop Pick: Giolito Under 2.5 earned runs allowed (-145) with BetOnline

White Sox Prop Bet: Jose Abreu

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

I am going back to Abreu tonight as well as the White Sox starting pitcher in Lucas Giolito. Abreu is 6-for-13 with two doubles and five RBIs career off Tigers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal (5-7, 4.06), who at one point looked like an All-Star with a 5-2 record and 2.33 ERA but has fallen way off since.

MLB Prop Pick: Abreu Over 1.5 total bases (+102) with BetOnline

White Sox Prop Bet: Tim Anderson

  • At Least 2 Hits + Runs + RBIs

Also like Sox shortstop and leadoff hitter Tim Anderson to have a nice night as he’s 7-for-13 with five doubles, a homer and two RBIs career off Skubal.

MLB Prop Pick: Anderson with at least 2 hits + runs + RBIs (-145) with BetOnline
