It’s my final MLB article for the first half of the season, so let’s cap it with a profitable day!

Here are today’s player props and the MLB odds we’re looking at are from BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review). Happy Friday!

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Miami Marlins

Friday, July 15, 2022 – 06:40 PM EDT at loanDepot Park

Sandy Alcantara

  • Over/Under 20.5 Outs Recorded
  • Over/Under 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed

Just like I write about Shohei Ohtani every time he’s on the mound for the Angels, I do the same for the Marlins’ Sandy Alcantara. Alcantara is the favorite to win the NL Cy Young Award (priced at -110) at BMR’s top-rated books.

No Miami pitcher has won that award and no Marlins hurler has started the All-Star Game. I do think the latter changes next Tuesday at Dodger Stadium unless Alcantara completely blows up here.

At 9-3 with a 1.73 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, 111 strikeouts and 130.1 innings pitched, he has the best numbers of any NL starter. Yeah, the Dodgers’ Tony Gonsolin is 11-0, but he was just roughed up Wednesday in St. Louis.

NL manager Brian Snitker figures to choose Alcantara, Gonsolin or Clayton Kershaw. Since the game is at Dodger Stadium, that could influence Snitker to pick one of those two LA guys.

For the Long Stretch

Not sure I’ve seen an Over/Under of outs recorded of 20.5 before as that’s just under seven innings, but Alcantara has thrown at least seven innings in 12 straight starts, that's the longest stretch by any pitcher in a season since 2014 when three pitchers did it:

  • Clayton Kershaw 17
  • Felix Hernandez 16
  • David Price 14

In half of his 18 starts, Alcantara has tossed at least seven innings and held his opponent to 1 or 0 earned runs -- the best in MLB. Over his last 12 starts, he is 7-1 with a 1.24 ERA. Alcantara is 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA in two starts spanning 14 innings against the Phillies this year.

MLB Prop Pick: Sandy Alcantara Over 20.5 Outs Recorded (-165) at BetOnline

MLB Prop Pick: Sandy Alcantara Under 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-150) at BetOnline

Rhys Hoskins

  • Over/Under 0.5 Hits

Phillies slugger Rhys Hoskins hasn’t had much success off Alcantara, batting .207 with 12 strikeouts in 29 at-bats. Let's fade him tonight.

MLB Prop Pick: Rhys Hoskins Under 0.5 Hits (+115) at BetOnline

Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals

Friday, July 15, 2022 – 07:05 PM EDT at Nationals Park

Austin Riley

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

In 2019, Nationals lefty Patrick Corbin was one of the better left-handers in the National League at 14-7 with a 3.25 ERA, but the dude has fallen off a cliff since and is an ugly 4-11 with a 5.70 ERA this season. Corbin has allowed 125 hits in 94.2 innings and batters are hitting an absurd .310 off him.

Thus, the Braves should hang a crooked number tonight in D.C. and two Atlanta batters, in particular, appear poised for big games.

Austin Riley has been one of the hottest hitters in the NL this month with a .421 average, seven homers, 15 RBIs and a 1.336 OPS. Also, he’s hitting .314 with a 1.098 OPS against lefties this year with 17 of his 27 hits going for extra bases. Riley is 7-for-24 with three doubles and a homer career vs. Corbin.

MLB Prop Pick: Austin Riley Over 1.5 Total Bases (-115) at BetOnline

Adam Duvall

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

Adam Duvall isn’t having the season Riley is, batting only .204. This month he's going for .200 with three extra-base hits, although he missed a few games. However, Duvall is 11-for-32 with two homers, four doubles, and eight RBIs career off Corbin.

MLB Prop Pick: Adam Duvall Over 1.5 Total Bases (+120) at BetOnline

Kansas City Royals vs. Toronto Blue Jays

Friday, July 15, 2022 – 07:07 PM EDT at Rogers Centre

Alek Manoah

  • Over/Under 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed

Going to make this short but sweet: Kansas City pulled off the biggest upset of this 2022 MLB season on Thursday with a 3-1 shocker in Toronto. The Royals, remember, basically are a Triple-A team right now with 10 players on the COVID restricted list and star catcher Salvador Perez on the injured list.

They were around +320 for Thursday’s game, the biggest underdog number of the season and the biggest for Kansas City in three years. I know a lot of parlays involving the Jays were ruined.

Duly embarrassed, I expect Toronto to win this game in a blowout and for ace Alek Manoah (9-4, 2.34 ERA) to dominate that minor-league lineup. Manoah is 5-1 with a 2.21 ERA and .193 opponents’ batting average at home. He faced the Royals in KC on June 7 and threw six shutout innings.

MLB Prop Pick: Alek Manoah Under 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed (+135) at BetOnline
