Philadelphia Phillies vs. San Diego Padres

Wednesday, October 19, 2022 – 04:35 PM EDT at Petco Park

Bryce Harper and JT Realmuto

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases
  • Over/Under 0.5 Hits

The Phillies continued their road success in these playoffs (now 4-1) with a minor 2-0 upset in the opener on Tuesday night in San Diego behind a stellar effort from Zack Wheeler, who shut out the Padres on one hit over seven innings with eight strikeouts.

Both Philadelphia runs came on homers from Bryce Harper and an absolute bomb from Kyle Schwarber. His dinger went an estimated 488 feet per Statcast, the longest home run in Petco Park during the Statcast era and the second-longest postseason homer. Only Willson Contreras's HR against Alex Wood in Game 4 of the 2017 NLCS went further (491).

Schwarber had been terrible at the plate in this postseason, but Harper has been great. He is hitting .407 with four homers and seven RBIs and is the second player in Phillies history to homer in three straight games in a single postseason (Gary Matthews in 1983 NLCS). We will roll on a total bases prop with him as the Padres start lefty Blake Snell, and Harper is 1-for-7 career off him with a homer.

Phils catcher JT Realmuto was 0-for-4 in Game 1 but has had success off Snell, going 4-for-10 with a double and homer.

MLB Prop Pick: Realmuto Over 0.5 Hits (-210) at BetOnline

Blake Snell

  • Over/Under 1.5 Batters Walked

Snell was 8-10 with a 3.38 ERA this season and is 1-0 with a 3.12 ERA in these playoffs.

Control can be a major problem as he has eight walks in his 8.2 playoff innings, so keep that in mind for this MLB pick.

Aaron Nola and Manny Machado

  • Over/Under 5.5 Strikeouts
  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

Aaron Nola gets the call for the Phillies and there will be history made as the Padres will again start Austin Nola at catcher. It'll be the first time two siblings have ever faced one another as pitcher and batter in MLB postseason history.

The two have faced one another six times in the regular season, with Austin managing a hit, a walk and two strikeouts.

Aaron Nola has been marvelous in these playoffs at 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 12 strikeouts. He allowed one run in seven innings in his lone regular-season start vs. San Diego. Manny Machado can’t hit him, going 1-for-13. He was 0-for-4 in Game 1.

New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros

Wednesday, October 19, 2022 – 07:37 PM EDT at Minute Maid Park

Aaron Judge

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

TBS has Game 1 of the ALCS and wow are the Yankees at a disadvantage... They had to play Game 5 of the ALDS late Tuesday afternoon and used their three best relievers in the victory and then obviously had to travel. New York also lost outfielder Aaron Hicks to a season-ending injury. Now the Yankees face a very rested Astros team that largely had New York’s number during the regular season. Houston is playing in its sixth ALCS and New York its first since 2019.

Sure-fire AL MVP Aaron Judge did hit two homers in the five-game series vs. Cleveland but batted only .200 with 11 strikeouts. During the regular season, his chase rate was 29.8% but rose to 41.3% against the Guardians.

Judge is just 4-for-27 career with 10 strikeouts off Houston starter and expected AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander. If you can find an individual Judge strikeout prop, go over 1.5.

Justin Verlander

  • To Have 5+ Strikeouts & Houston To Win

Verlander was historically good at age 38 during the regular season at 18-4 with a 1.75 ERA but was shockingly bad in his lone playoff start back on Oct. 11, allowing 10 hits and six runs against Seattle – although Houston remarkably won.

In eight career postseason starts versus New York, Verlander is 4-1 with a 2.75 ERA.

MLB Prop Pick: Verlander To Have 5+ Strikeouts & Houston To Win (-189) at BetOnline

Jameson Taillon and Jose Altuve

  • Over/Under 3.5 Strikeouts
  • At Least 2 Hits + Runs + RBIs

The Yankees were going to start Jameson Taillon in the original Game 5 vs. Cleveland on Monday but when that was postponed, they switched to Nestor Cortes.

That tells you the faith they have in Taillon, who had a 4.36 ERA on the road during the regular season and allowed 10 runs and six hits in his lone outing vs. Houston. While I don’t think Taillon will fare that well, his strikeout total is very low.

Jose Altuve is 4-for-9 with two doubles career off Taillon – several Astros have good splits against him.

MLB Prop Pick: Taillon Over 3.5 Strikeouts (-152) at BetOnline

MLB Prop Pick: Altuve at Least 2 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-154) at BetOnline
