It’s Friday night and we are celebrating it with five plays on MLB player props. Will Justin Verlander keep his win streak alive? Will Paul Goldschmidt keep his hit streak going? All that plus a doubleheader on Mookie Betts props.
BMR’s Betting Pulse
• Justin Verlander (Astros) has won six straight starts. That is the longest current streak in the MLB.
• Paul Goldschmidt (Diamondbacks) holds the best current hitting streak (17 games) in the National League.
• Mookie Betts (Dodgers) has 13 straight games with at least one run scored. The Dodgers are 25-5 when he scores at least one.

Justin Verlander Prop Bets For Today
- Over/Under 6.5 Strikeouts
- Will Justin Verlander Record A Win?
One of the best comeback stories of all time could be written this year by two-time Cy Young winner and former AL MVP Justin Verlander, who already is a first-ballot Hall of Famer. The right-hander missed most of the shortened 2020 season and all of 2021 due to Tommy John surgery.
Guys aren’t supposed to return from that at age 39 and even if they do, not dominate. Yet Verlander is as good as ever and is the +300 favorite at BMR’s best sportsbooks and betting sites to win a third Cy Young Award – shoot, he’ll probably win AL Comeback Player of the Year as well.
How Many Games Has Verlander Won Recently?
Verlander has won six straight starts – the longest current streak in the majors – to improve to 6-1. His 1.22 ERA and 0.72 WHIP lead MLB. He took a no-hitter into the eighth inning a few starts ago. Oh, and he’s married to Kate Upton. Life doesn’t suck for him.
Houston is vastly better than disappointing Seattle and Verlander should win this game. The Astros have won eight straight against the Mariners with Verlander on the mound, although he took the decision in six of the eight. This year, he’s 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA in two starts vs. Seattle. He has struck out 11 … and that’s why I’m going under the strikeouts.
While Verlander still throws hard, he’s not where he used to be velocity-wise, which makes sense at his age. He generally lets his defense work for him. In three of his past four starts, JV has struck out five or fewer – including three Mariners on April 4. Seattle has three players ranking top 20 in the majors with the lowest strikeout rate in:
- Ty France (11.1%)
- Adam Frazier (12.1%)
- Jesse Winker (13.6%)

Milwaukee Brewers vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Friday, May 27, 2022 - 08:15 PM EDT at Busch Stadium
- Over/Under 0.5 Runs
Hey, I don’t mean to be lazy here, but I’m going back to the Cardinals’ Paul Goldschmidt after he won a hit prop for us, on Thursday, against the Brewers in the series opener. Maybe you didn’t read Thursday’s story or maybe I don’t care: Ride a guy while he’s hot.
In the 4-3 loss to Milwaukee, Goldschmidt extended his MLB-leading on-base streak to 31 consecutive games with a first-inning walk and also extended his NL-best hitting streak to 17 games by going 2-for-4 with a homer and two runs scored.
Goldy has 10th multi-hit efforts during the streak in which he’s batting .451. On top of that, 14 of his last 23 hits have gone for extra bases (six homers, eight doubles). His 19 extra-base hits this month are the most in MLB this season and rank tied for sixth-most in franchise history in May.
We will go with runs scored instead of hits for this one because Goldy is so hot that the Brewers may intentionally walk him once or twice. Goldschmidt hasn’t been a great career hitter against Brewers' starter Brandon Woodruff, going 6-for-27 with just one RBI.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
Friday, May 27, 2022 - 09:40 PM EDT at Chase Field
- Over/Under 0.5 Runs
We won on the Dodgers’ Mookie Betts on Thursday in the series opener against Arizona. We took over 0.5 runs at -175, and Betts stayed red hot by going 3-for-5 with three runs scored.
That’s 13 straight games with at least one run scored and the Dodgers are 25-5 when he has one. Betts also has hit safely in 27 of his past 32 games, batting nearly .340 over that span with 41 runs scored. With his fifth three-hit performance in May, Betts is 33-for-93 (.355) with nine homers and 24 RBIs this month. He has seen his season OPS jump from .720 to .978 over the last 23 games.
“A lot of good quality at-bats all around,” Manager Dave Roberts said. “Mookie just continues to be out of this world.”
I don’t pretend to know what statisticians consider “good contact” but Betts is doing so in 13.2 percent of swings, which ranks third among MLB hitters who have swung at least 200 times so far. Since April 25, he is tied for MLB’s best rate, with 15.8 percent of swings turning into good contact.

Mookie Betts vs. Christian Walker
- Who Will Have More Total Bases From Hits?
Mookie Betts should have more total bases from hits than Christian Walker. Frankly, I can’t believe that Betts is only -150 against Arizona's second baseman (-102) on the total bases prop for our last MLB pick. Walker is batting .204 on the season, although he does have 12 homers – including a solo shot in Arizona’s 14-1 loss Thursday.
