Seattle Mariners vs. Toronto Blue Jays

Wednesday, May 18, 2022 – 07:07 PM EDT at Rogers Centre

Blue Jays Player Prop Bet: Kevin Gausman

  • Over/Under 6.5 Strikeouts
  • Over/Under 0.5 Walks

Former San Francisco Giants right-hander Kevin Gausman has been one of the best free-agent signings of the offseason by any team for the Toronto Blue Jays as he’s a +700 second-favorite at the best sportsbooks to win the AL Cy Young Award – only behind Houston’s Justin Verlander (+500).

You may remember that last week we recommended a prop on Under 1.5 walks for Gausman in a start Friday at Tampa Bay because he had walked just one batter all season. He also walked just one that day in a 5-2 loss, so the prop is a winner.

Gausman is now 3-2 with a 2.40 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and a strikeout-to-walk ratio that is an absurd 27.0 with 54 Ks and 2 walks.

Seattle has not hit in the first two games of this series, losing them by a combined score of 9-2 against pitchers who aren’t as good as Gausman. The Mariners do rank fifth in walks taken with 136 and middle of the pack with 304 Ks.

In his past six starts, Gausman has struck out at least 8 in all but one. Seven career Mariners have faced him in the regular season and combine for a .151 average, 9 walks, and 20 strikeouts.

New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles

Wednesday, May 18, 2022 - 07:05 PM EDT at Oriole Park

Yankees Player Prop Bet: Giancarlo Stanton

  • At Least 2 Hits + Runs + RBIs

We’ve won plenty on MVP candidate Aaron Judge in our props so far this season, but we will turn to his Bash Brother Giancarlo Stanton in this one, and Stanton is having fine year as well, batting .288 with 10 homers, 32 RBIs and an OPS of .869.

Judge, Stanton and Anthony Rizzo became the first trio in franchise history to hit at least 10 homers in the club's first 35 games of a season.

In his past 19 games, Stanton is batting .356 and slugging .712 with 26 hits, 8 home runs and 24 RBIs. He loves facing the pitching-poor Orioles as since 2020 against them, he’s batting .390 with 6 doubles, 6 homers and 27 RBIs. At Oriole Park only in that stretch, he’s at .424 with 4 doubles, 2 homers and 8 RBIs.

The Yankees in their entirety should tee off today on Orioles right-hander Jordan Lyles (2-3, 4.38 ERA). He has allowed an American League-high 45 hits this season in 39 innings and Stanton is batting .467 (7-for-15) with a homer, 2 doubles, and 5 RBIs off him career.

MLB Prop Pick: Stanton With at Least 2 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-205) at BetOnline

San Diego Padres vs. Philadelphia Phillies

Wednesday, May 18, 2022 - 06:45 PM EDT at Citizens Bank Park

Phillies Player Prop Bet: Zack Wheeler

  • Most Strikeouts

It’s former AL Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell making his season debut for the Padres against 2021 NL Cy Young runner-up Zack Wheeler for the Phillies.

Incidentally, the Phillies should have reigning NL MVP Bryce Harper back in the lineup. The NL Player of the Week for last week sat Sunday and Tuesday after getting an injection in his elbow. That injury is not allowing him to play the outfield and only DH.

Snell had a so-so first season with San Diego last year after being traded from the Rays at 7-6 with a 4.20 ERA and 170 strikeouts in 128.2 innings. He was really good in August and September, though. Snell’s 2022 debut had been delayed due to an adductor injury. In three minor-league rehab starts, the lefty struck out 19 over 13 innings.

Wheeler is off to a disappointing start at 1-3 with a 4.26 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 31.2 innings but has been much better at home with a 1.93 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 23.1 innings.

Snell is the better strikeout pitcher, but I’m not sure he will be allowed to go more than 4-5 innings. Wheeler should go at least 6 innings and has struck out exactly 7 in each of his past three.
