It’s Shohei Ohtani Day! The Angels’ dual-threat star returns to the mound as Los Angeles looks to avoid a sweep in Miami.

Angels vs. Marlins: What You Should Know

We had three picks on this matchup for Tuesday when Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara was on the mound and we won twice on him: Over 7.5 strikeouts and Over 20.5 outs recorded as Alcantara boosted his NL Cy Young chances with 8 innings of 2-hit shutout ball as the Marlins won 2-1.

Our third pick was on Miami’s Jon Berti to have a stolen base as we told you Angels pitcher Noah Syndergaard was apt to give up steals with his slow delivery. Well, he did give up two steals, but Berti in a surprise wasn’t in the lineup. He's not thought to be hurt and probably will be in there today.

Angels Prop Bet: Shohei Ohtani

  • Over/Under 7.5 Strikeouts
  • Over/Under 4.5 Hits Allowed

Today, it’s all about Angels' dual-threat star Shohei Ohtani. I really have no opinion on his hitting as he’s in a bit of a slump this month with a .143 average and has never faced Marlins starting pitcher Trevor Rogers, a lefty. Ohtani only hits .210 off southpaws.

We definitely like Ohtani on the mound, though. He has 24 strikeouts -- and zero runs allowed -- over his last two starts. In his last four starts, Ohtani is 4-0 with a 0.34 ERA and 36 strikeouts and has an active streak of 21.2 consecutive scoreless innings. He has joined the legendary Nolan Ryan (1972) as the only Angels' pitchers to go 4-0 with an ERA below 0.35 and 36+ strikeouts in a four-game span.

Miami has won six straight games but largely on the back of its pitching and remains without its best offensive player in the injured Jazz Chisholm.

Angels Prop Bet: Mike Trout

  • At Least 2 Hits + Runs + RBIs

The hitter we do like today is the Halos’ Mike Trout. He’s in a major slump right now as over his past seven days he’s batting 2-for-18 with just one extra-base hit and 11 strikeouts. The three-time MVP is due!

As mentioned above, the Marlins are starting a lefty in Rogers and Trout is batting .333 with an OPS of 1.087 vs. southpaws compared to .254 with a .960 OPS vs. right-handers.

Rogers has been terrible at home this season with an 8.39 ERA in six starts. All we need is a solo homer and we win this prop, and it’s priced very reasonably at the best sportsbooks

Colorado Rockies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

Rockies vs. Dodgers: What You Should Know

One quick note on the Dodgers: They have lost All-Star super-utility man Chris Taylor for a while to a foot fracture. No timetable for his return, but it could push the Dodgers to trade for an outfielder.

Due to offseason surgery, LA has only been using Taylor in the outfield whereas he also played the infield last season. Something about his throwing motion being different/safer in the outfield.

MLB Prop Bet: Los Angeles Dodgers

  • Over/Under 5.5 Total Runs Scored

Even without Taylor, I expect the Dodgers to put up a lot of runs tonight against 30-year-old journeyman Jose Urena. He was released by the Brewers and signed a minor-league contract with Colorado in May – the Rockies need a fill-in starter with Antonio Senzatela on the injured list.

While Urena was decent in four relief appearances earlier this season with Milwaukee, he had ERAs of at least 5.21 each of the previous three seasons in the majors and is 36-54 with a 4.67 ERA as a big-leaguer

Since signing with the Rockies, he had made five starts with Triple-A Albuquerque and been hammered to the tune of a 7.29 ERA through 21 innings with the Isotopes, only striking out 13.9% of batters faced while walking more than 11% of opponents. There are no individual props available on Urena, so we’ll simply do the Dodgers’ run total.

Dodgers Prop Bet: Freddie Freeman

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

For our final MLB pick, Expect a nice night for LA’s Freddie Freeman as he’s 13-for-31 career off Urena with 4 homers, 3 triples, and 2 doubles.

I’m not going to recommend against Trea Turner tonight, but it is a surprise the All-Star is 0-for-16 career off Urena.
